Battery modules for the next few validation vehicles!
Aptera, with its maximum focus on efficiency, couldn't use "off-the-shelf" components to save money. Custom batteries were an essentially important component to achieving their goals. I cannot imagine the excitement at the company to see so many of those battery modules ready to be installed.

Actually, quite a lot of Aptera uses "off-the-shelf" components: The motor, the brakes, the HVAC, the ADAS software, the screen and various bits and bobs. They actually had a more "custom" design for the battery modules but then decided to go with an existing system to save time and money.

I forgot about Aptera abandoning the in-wheel motors for a proven alternative. I didn't know the custom batteries were also swapped for an existing system. I had assumed it was the custom battery design that was the reason they had only one battery pack for so long.

It's surprising an off-the-shelf HVAC system worked in the tight confines of the Aptera.

I wouldn't have expected Aptera to tackle a custom screen or ADAS software any more than developing their own adhesives and fasteners.

Without the burden of efficiency, the developers of the tiny (Aptera solar-panel optional) Telo electric truck get off easier than Aptera by using many more off-the-shelf parts.

All EV battery packs are "custom" to some degree and, for the most part, battery cells share common chemistries: There are no universal "off the shelf" EV battery packs. What was "custom" about Aptera's pack was the way the cells were connected. Aptera went out and found a compact HVAC system (from Chery Motors in China) and then designed the vehicle around it.

@Kerbe, you've always got the best info. Is your first name Chris or Steve?
