For some people, range and trunk space aren't the most important considerations when selecting a BEV. Let's consider value of the two cars. The seats and interior of the Bolt are far inferior to the Clarity Electric. Then compare the cost of ownership for a 36-month lease:With how much nicer the Clarity PHEV is than the Volt, it's odd how bad the Clarity EV is in comparison the Bolt. Much bigger dimensions, yet much less battery and still less trunk space.

I wonder which car has the better quality of construction? Let's not ask Consumer Reports.
- For the Clarity, Electric Honda charges $1,799 due at signing and $199/month.
- For the Bolt, Chevrolet of Fremont says the Bolt costs $7,995 due at signing and $159/month.
"Cost of" terminology aside, it is much less expensive to drive a Clarity Electric than a Bolt. That does bring up another point, though... You can actually buy a Bolt if you want to. Honda doesn't seem to think the Clarity EV is even marketable to people who don't lease, so your cost of "ownership" is stretching the definition![]()

Test drove a Bolt. It is a cheap $15k economy commuter car in every way but the powertrain. I’m happy the Clarity’s bigger dimensions are used for passenger space rather than battery space and I sure wouldn’t want to drive a Bolt on a multistate road trip with my family. The Clarity PHEV is a much nicer space in which to spend time. They are different products for different market niches and not really directly comparable.
