Awesome! I love pictures of stripped cars, all the bits under the panels are super interesting to me (but not enough to strip my own car lol). Too bad most of the interior detail pics were focused on one specific thing with a blurry background...

I wonder if they did anything to the motor/battery cooling controls? The article says they have a "custom battery and motor monitoring system" but nothing about actually improving the cooling.

You can always tell when BMW writes the story because they claim the MINI Cooper SE's motor puts out 184 "horsepower" instead of 184 German pferdestärke (PS).

Autoweek writes, "You don’t need to know all those calculations. Just know that German pferdestärke (PS) and Italian cavalli vapore (CV) translate to horsepower, but 1.4 percent less than the SAE horsepower at which cars are rated here."

So to compare the SE with cars whose manufactures don't equate PS and HP, use 181 hp, not 184 hp.

This is interesting. And I’m really interested in the “John Cooper Works Brembo setup”. As I have been thinking of putting in a JCW 17” sports brakes but my dealer told not to mess with the brakes of the SE.

I wondered why it would need bigger brakes (high regen).

The regen would be very hard to use in a performance driving situation because it isn't predictable/reliable. For example, regen derates when:
  • the motor gets hot
  • The battery is hot or cold
  • steering wheel turns
  • traction control registered wheel slip
  • a wheel comes off the ground
Also, regen adds a lot more heat to the drivetrain which is a huge concern with the SE (to prevent motor performance limiting)

Does putting in a JCW 17” sports brakes will not be really good for the SE, as it will affect the regen?

I know that the SE will blend the brakes into the regen under certain conditions so if you switch to a more aggressive caliper/pad/rotor, you may experience jerky-ness or stronger than expected deceleration.

Unless you are planning on racing, I don't think better brakes will be much of an improvement.

Thanks. I only wanted it for the aggressive look, so that is now off the list.

You could always paint the calipers with high temp paint if you just want them red like the JCW ones. I painted my Miata calipers black when I got tired of them being rust colored.

They sell stuff specifically for brake calipers but you need to remove and partially disassemble the calipers to do a good job

Yup, that was my other option, and also thinking of painting them yellow to match the yellow bits on the SE.

I pic up a car on January 3 and paint a calipers 3 coats with brush next day .I spray ceramic paint from can to small container and use a small brush that way I don’t have to use any protection to spray a car or anything else .I raise a car up take of 4 wheels and work a

I found some Por15 high temp resistant paint in energetic yellow online on Amazon (iirc). Planning to use on my calipers and license plate numbers.

I've never heard of anyone repainting the license-plate numbers before. I guess if you find an Energetic Yellow equivalent, the authorities will not be able to claim your numbers are more difficult to read.

Forgive me for being somewhat cynical, but isn't painting your calipers a flashy color somewhat like installing a hood scoop? [Yeah, all of my Mini's have had the hood scoop, which was only functional in the first one with the supercharger.]

I, the self-appointed fake hood-scoop naysayer, believe that paint does not qualify as a superfluous ornament. Painting the calipers makes even more sense in the case of @Carsten Haase's rusty Miata calipers. I'll concede that painting the calipers on an SE with caliper-concealing Power Spoke wheels could be considered superfluous, however.

I believe he will paint a frame only like I did

Cool, would you be able to send me the link? Really appreciate it! Thanks heaps.
