I would love to try one out, but with the new BC Ferries rules (Transport Canada) and no service centers on Vancouver Island...personally would not take the chance of purchasing one.

Not likely to change. Hopefully, this explanation on the Rivian forum makes them easier on the eye:

The shape of the R1 headlights runs deep in the core ethos of the company. It was stated in an interview that the designers were trying to come up with a unique headlight design that would speak to the brand ethos of "Adventure". There was a carabiner on the table that sparked the inspiration for the headlight design, and that design pattern is used elsewhere in the vehicle, specifically the key fob and the tie downs.

Amongst other things, the goofy headlights would make me never consider a Rivian. The looks (front) are almost as bad as the Cybertruck.
