Problem getting Apple CarPlay on new SE

Has anyone had a problem getting Apple CarPlay to show up on SE? I just took delivery last Saturday and have worked with the dealer on a problem……Apple CarPlay does not show up. I have an iPhone 12 and am able to connect via Bluetooth with no problem. But under Mobile Devices/Connect new device Apple CarPlay doesn’t show up. We’ve gone through the “Update Services” process several times and still no CarPlay. Now I’m faced with driving from SF to Marin County just to get help fixing this. Anyone had a similar problem?

A few suggestions:

have you updated to iOS 15.2?

do you have both blue-tooth and Wi-Fi turned on?

did you delete any previous CarPlay or blue tooth car setups in the phone?

reboot the phone after the update

I didn't think iOS 15.2 would be required, but am just doing that update now.
Yes, I have both blue-tooth and Wi-Fi turned on.
I have paired my iPhone (and unpaired, and paired again...etc) trying to get this fixed. CarPlay has never appeared.
I am rebotting the phone now......then I'll try all this again. THANKS for your suggestions!

ioS 15.2 is not required but it contained some CarPlay bug fixes

When I first paired my phone it didn't show up until I went into the apps setting in the car and selected it then it worked from there on out.

you can also check to see if its paired by trying Siri from the phone and see if CarPlay launches

a long hold on the car voice recognition button should also work.

I had the same experience months ago, dunno what I did but CarPlay finally connected. If I recall it has something to do with Bluetooth and wireless conflicts. Streaming audio uses Bluetooth but CarPlay uses the radio's wireless hot spot. Sometimes it seems the Bluetooth connection does not release immediately. Restarting the phone usually releases the connection.

There have been times where the phone starts streaming from its library via bluetooth (perhaps because that was its most recent use in the house) and then doesn't switch to CarPlay until the stream is closed. I guess the phone/radio doesn't know which connection you want, so it continues to use one or the other until the driver changes it.

There may be other things going on.

I only paired my phone to the SE with CarPlay. Bluetooth is a separate thing. Think of CarPlay as a superset of bluetooth. I wonder if having the phone paired in both modes is causing issues.

Yeah, the way I wrongly interpreted the instructions was to first pair via the Bluetooth radio and then connect CarPlay, which is actually a wireless ethernet radio. So I have both radios as available connections, I think. When I'm playing a tune off the phone library and hop in the SE, it will continue to play the tunes through the radio using the Bluetooth radio connection. I have to change the phone settings to get a CarPlay connection.
