Price up & autosteer (lane keeping) behind paywall

Autosteer (active lane keeping) as a standard feature on all Tesla Model 3 & Model Y cars was quietly removed in January 2026. It is now part of the $99 a month FSD (supervised) package. Variants of lane keeping are standard on just about every car sold in America. This includes all the EV competitors (Ford, Hyundai, Kia, VW). There are various ways to view this move, but they make a new Model 3 & Model Y either much more expensive to own or less capable than the competition.

Just days ago, Tesla raised the price of the Model Y.

With more than 175,000 miles on my Model 3 and a used car value of $5,000, it is nice to have choices today. Tesla in 2019 led the pack but today, they are not alone.
