Yesterday (Friday) I began having an issue with the 12 volt system in my 2019 Niro EV EX Premium. When I went out to start the car in the afternoon the key fob would not unlock the door. I was able to use the physical key that can be released from the fob to get in and the car wouldn't start so I opened the hood. The battery was showing only 5 volts on a voltmeter. I hooked up my little trickle charger and started to charge the 12 volt battery. I looked in my owners manual and saw that it said to disconnect the cables from the battery before trickle charging. I disconnected only the negative cable and put the trickle charger back on, but now it was showing the battery as charged, so I checked the voltage again and it now showed 12 volts. I called my dealer and made an appointment to bring the car in to have them troubleshoot because I suspected that there was a short somewhere.
I decided to check whether I could jump the car so I could drive it to the dealership Monday so I used my jumper cables to connect my wife's car's battery. No problem, my car started so I took off the jumper cables and shut off my car. Then I thought maybe it would be a good idea to charge the high voltage battery so I hooked up the jumper cables again, but this time the car wouldn't start.
Friday of last week my dealer did some warranty work, replacing the passenger side rear view mirror because the motor in the mirror was no longer folding it in when I lock the car. The next day (last Saturday) I drove a short distance to the airport and my car was parked there until last Wednesday. The car started fine at the airport and I drove home, but the car wasn't driven on Thursday and my problem began Friday. I suspect that somehow the installation of the new mirror motor is causing the short or is somehow related to my problem.
My battery is the original and when I had a regular multi-point inspection on my car 6 weeks ago they tested the 12 volt battery and said it tested as good. That is when I told them that my mirror was starting to have its problem.
Any ideas what might be going on?
