Pedal Box EV Throttle Controller

Hello:
I am new to this forum, but have been following for a year since I purchased my 2023 Mini Cooper SE. So far, it has been a blast to drive, having worked on 60/70's Ford cars for over 43 years, how technology has come!
Anyways, last few weeks been reading up on these so called Throttle Controllers to quicken the throttle response on electrically controlled throttles. Have always been sceptical about all these devices and finding very little information about actual installs on our EV's, there was one member on this forum who had installed on their 2021 or 22? but have not seen any updates since.
Well, I did bite the bullet and purchased one last week, it arrived and was installed this afternoon and I have to say, it is everything that Pedal Box said it would do! Way back when I was building ICE's, one would spend 3-5g's on a balanced/blueprinted motor, yet would not spend 10% on a proper tune up. The Pedal Box is like that 10% tune up! I would definitely recommend it to those who really want that little extra out of their Mini Cooper SE, without voiding warranty!
If any members out there that are interested, please let me know and I can pass on information to the USA distributor for Pedal Box, since they are a German Company and would give our members a discount. No I do not work for them, just passing along my experience with their product.

PS the other is Pedal Commander, but from the reviews I have read, may cause "error messages".........

Put on my glasses........you would think the 6 pin conductor is foolproof, but if rotated 180* out, it can sort of still plug in, but I believe it does not actually make contact. So what I believe happened, was when I tried starting and no connection, the ECU sense there was something wrong, error messages warning of front collision, something with the brakes etc., then it just "bricked" could not even put it into neutral!
So as you probably read in my other posting, I talked to someone who works on Mini's for a living and said turn off, remove the Pedal Box, reconnect the plug, let car sit for awhile to discharge any power to ECU and may "reset" itself. Fortunately, it worked and everything was OK! After which I used Bimmer Link to check
and no new errors. So this afternoon I figured I would give it another shot (glasses on too) and all is well! Terrible getting old......

Was a before and after 0-60 done? If not, how is the improvement actually being defined?

I have not had a chance to perform a proper 0-60, as I just installed the Pedal Box, but having done many years of runs down the strip, I know for a fact that it is quicker. In the Pedal Box "performance" setting, there is no "lag", pedal response is instant. The best comparison I can give at the moment (until I do a proper 0-60 test), like going from Green Mode to Sport Mode.......Pedal Box changes the "throttle curve" to a more steeper curve, with Traction Control on, it is fighting for traction, with it off, I could light up my tires, well RH tire. Had a buddy of mine play with the settings while I was driving and he noticed the difference. In performance mode, the Mini's front end lifts up more and you get slammed back into your seat.
Pedal Box claims up to 10% more response and I can agree with that, they have somewhere on their website mentioning something like "that if you are not happy, return within 30 days for full refund (less shipping costs), but you will be keeping.....". For everyday driving they, along with myself, would not recommend the performance mode for everyday driving around town/traffic. In this mode, you barely touch the throttle pedal and you are gone! Did a quick test from a marked out section of road, few hundred of feet and it was quicker. You really notice from say 0-30mph, especially from a stop and then when you reach around 40, then it is just like normal, as power/torque same.....
So far from my limited personal use, I think it is worth it, read my original post about "tune up". Yesterday when driving/testing, about 5 miles and dropped 7%, it was a blast driving! It also has a "default" setting back to OEM, so you can easily cycle back and forward, their app is also very easy to use and understand.
I have read a couple of members who like to take their mini's on road courses etc., this definitely would be a great addition.

There is a very slight power ramp up to increase the longevity of the front tires. The 2013-2015 BMW i3 didn't have the delay and it was RIP rear tires, RIP motor mounts, RIP rear chassis, etc.
 
Aside from faster acceleration, apparently there's also a "long-range mode":

PedalBox EV offers an absolute novelty, namely the “Long Range” mode, which significantly reduces energy consumption in load change mode, i.e. especially in city traffic and on country roads. Due to the lower energy consumption, significantly higher ranges can be achieved, 20% and more compared to standard consumption are possible.​

If this is true, a 20% increase in range would be huge. For the F56 SE that could conceivably push it to almost 180 mi range (I regularly get nearly 150 miles in the summer).

I would consider their "Long Range" as Green + (yeah, you stomp down on the pedal, but slow as heck acceleration), but at least you can still operate the HVAC systems. Range, like everything else has alot to do with driver's "right foot", ideally if you where driving on some country back road, where relatively flat, no stop lights etc., drive around 45mph on cruise control, you probably would get the highest range. For you to get 150 miles is already more than what factory claims, what mode did you get that in and was it city, highway or both, what about speed??
My Mini replaced 2005 Ford Focus ZX3, it was purchased new and the first thing I did was take it out on a secondary back highway, cruising at 50 mph I got 50mpg, which was way over the advertise claim, so again alot has to do with how a car is driven.
As the weather improves, I will be doing more testing of the Pedal Box and post updates, but main reason I purchased was for the "performance" and I am definitely not disappointed! I consider it as "how much bang for your buck you get" and I am very happy........

I drive in mid mode, mostly freeway (60-70 mph). I use regenerative braking and cruise control as much as possible. I also have the most efficient wheels: Dark Grey Revolites in the winter, Power Spoke in summer.

Today, with temperatures going from 32 ºF to 53 ºF, I got over 5 mi/kWh on my Revolites.

Wow, that is great! I still have not taken my Mini on a really good run, probably in a few weeks when the weather improves, I will take it out for a run, just to see what I can achieve. With the level 2 charger I have, it tells me exactly the kwh used, so with that I can calculate total range and have came to 140mile (in theory).
You could always try the Pedal Box for 30 days and if you do not like it, return it for full refund....

Tempting, but it's a bit spendy. I'd definitely want it for the fun stuff, the long range functionality would just be in situations where I need to go a long distance on a single day.
