Opening all 4 windows just a crack with key fob

Most of you already know this, but for those who don’t, a trick I love when leaving the car outside on a hot day:

When the car is already unlocked, holding down UNLOCK again on the key fob (a second press) causes all windows to roll down as long as you hold the button. Useful when returning to a hot car, I suppose. However, on my old Honda Accord I used a timed press to crack all 4 windows when leaving the car in the sun on a hot day (then lock afterwards).

On the Clarity, holding down for 3 sec (the way I count) opens the windows just the right amount. 4 sec is too long. Ypu need to get the timing right as there is some lag where window moves down a bit more after you release.

On a related note, you can open and close the windows using the key itself.

Useful if a window was left open.

Can’t find it in the manual, but turn clockwise once quickly to unlock, turn and hold a second time to open the windows. Anti-clockwise twice and hold roll up the windows.

They let you do it with the key because you should be close enough to notice if anyone is sticking their heads out. Taking out the key seems weird. I know they did away with the passenger side keyhole a long time ago and people were complaining back then. They need to keep the key/keyhole in case the battery is dead.

1) Following the logic of being at the door when allowing the key to raise the windows, it seems that if the keyfob is in that 5 foot proximity to the door, that would also be a situation where the operator could see that no one's head were sticking out a window, so naturally the system should allow the operator to use the keyfob in that zone to close all windows.
2) If the car's 12V battery is dead and you need the traditional key to open the door, do you also need the traditional key to start the car and if so, where do you insert it? Haven't read anything about alternate starting methods.

If the 12-volt battery is dead, page 535 in the Owners Manual says you need a jump start.

If, on the other hand, the battery in the key fob (er, Smart Entry Remote) is too weak, page 537 describes a procedure that involves touching the H on the key fob to the center of the Power button.

Ah, that's a hidden Easter egg right there. I suppose if the fob went into the drink, starting the car could be a problem also. Those who have theirs in one of those jackets would need to remember that when the battery is weak, the jacket is a further impediment.

I tested it this morning: when standing at the driver's door, pressing and holding the lock button on the fob will not close the windows, only inserting the traditional key in the lock and turning to lock and holding will do it.

This is a great trick. I also discovered that if you do it again the windows roll down even more. I park my car in the blazing hot parking lot right outside my office which is about 50 feet away from my entrance. When getting ready to leave I could easily come out 5 minutes earlier and point my fob at the car and lower the windows to cool the car.
