Maybe, but that’s 8 years on HondaCare, 10 years on the battery, and 15 years on a bunch of parts for those of us lucky to be in a ZEV state. It’s too bad that consumers don’t see the value of this car, but I plan to drive it for 10 years and if it’s worth little to nothing at that point I guess I have to live with knowing I saved $800 or so per year on gas.

You nailed it. If Honda is required to provide parts and service for the length of the warranty, that’s 15 years for the ZEV states. Parts will be available for the car regardless of its location. The 2020 MY is due out soon, so we’re looking at support through at least 2036.

Should the car need to an abandoned in 16 years, it could always be parted out. $1500 for the windshield, $1100 for each wheel. The batteries could be converted to a 48V system and utilized for energy storage in any number of applications.

I agree 100%
But on some small level I do feel a little bad that I over paid for an 2018 that if I waited a bit I could have had the 2019 possibly for less.
I don't have the slightest regret paying MSRP to get the 1st one that rolled in on Dec 2, 2017, because I've been able to enjoy driving our Clarity for nearly 2 years now. I now know that waiting could have saved me $10K or more, but I was so gung-ho on this car that it never occurred to me that Honda wouldn't advertise it, people wouldn't buy it, and dealers would end up heavily discounting them to get rid of what they considered pariah cars. I don't expect much of a resale value when I'm ready to sell in 10 years or so.
