North Poll aka Canada ;): Clarity delivery ETA wait times

My friend keep patience. Do not compromise car for short waiting of X month, when you look at bigger picture. My wife always says " get what you want rather than what is available" You will keep this car for a long time , so some patience will help in long run.
As I indicated to you , rebate is a function of booking date not a function of delivery date , so there is 99% chances that if you already have paid deposit and booked and have receipt from Honda , you will get a car and rebate both , it is just a matter of time.

Let's think of this scenario. Honda cannot fulfill the 2018 order and promises a 2019 at comparable price, etc. Conservatives get elected and cancel EV incentives. Yes the rebate may be applicable for 2018, but not for 2019 Clarity. I'm still out $13K. I don't think I would have any recourse for lawsuit, however, I'm not a lawyer so I can't say. Either way even with a suit or class action, it is still stressful and a pain that I would rather not have to go through.

Happy for all the people who get theirs and would be happy if I get mine, but I'm sure there will be a big chunk of people that would be pretty upset if they didn't get one. Promises mean nothing unless you get a VIN.

I placed order for Grey base model on January 19th. Then just shy of 2 months I informed them that I would be willing to take any model or color as my lease comes due next week. I know I'm on top of the list at the dealership in St Catharines, but they can't seem to get me an answer on when I should be expecting one. Eligibility is by model year. Go here http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/vehicles/electric/electric-vehicle-rebate.shtml and you can see every vehicle is not only model and trim, but by model year. So a 2019 would not be eligible for a 2018 rebate.

I certainly hope the rebate continues, otherwise I'm going to be mighty pissed.

I agree, Ford did state that he agrees with the incentive program so I would not expect them to be canceled, but whatever government is formed could change the parameters. If the MTO makes future changes like the last one you get 6 months after the change to be grandfathered into the old system. It is still a risk, but if nothing changes before mid August, you should be safe until mid Jan 2019 for delivery.

The biggest problem I have is that no one has any answers. They manufacturer the car at their facilities and control the shipping of their vehicles (to a certain extent). When they say they have no information it can be only 2 things. Things are really bad with the production of Canadian Claritys and we are not a priority at all or Honda is really bad at managing their supply chain. I think it's the first one and if that is the case they should have only made 1 model for North America and would have had an easier time fulfilling orders. As for the rebate, what one government offers versus the other means nothing. I've seen progams come and go, some have positive impact and some have negative impact. The incoming government could easy add a cap. Once the payout cap is reached the rebate is gone.

Yeah fair point. I guess my concern/frustration is that I had an agreed upon trade in value, went through the credit application etc... and now I'm sure all of the numbers will change when the 2019 does finally come out. Guess it's time to get some guarantees from the dealership in writing!

The decrease in trade in value would constitute part of your damages if you have to sue over an unreasonable delay/failure to deliver.

Unless agreed upon at the time of sale, 90 days is the default reasonable period of time to deliver a vehicle in Ontario. I’m unsure if it is the same for other provinces.

Why do you not think you’d have recourse? You bought a vehicle in good faith with the understanding it would be delivered in a reasonable period of time. Your decision to enter into the contract was based on a rebate that had they delivered the vehicle on time you qualified for.

It was their failure to deliver the vehicle on time that led you to not receive the rebate.

How is that not cause and effect?

Small claims court is not stressful. You can use plain language if needed and the judge will help laypersons with understanding any legal jargon if needed.

But this worry is for a future date. Instead let’s focus on getting a Clarity. [emoji12]

Okay, heard from my Sales Rep who was called me.

I was told that they should have a firm answer by the end of the month from Honda Canada as to how many Clarity and what trims they will receive if any.

When asked due to the fact that I was almost next in line for a Clarity, if a Touring trim (I ordered base) were to arrive, could I have the option of receiving that instead. He told me that the Touring model would go to the Touring person who ordered it. So my hope is Honda is not favouring the Touring trim in terms of production and does have base trims going out. Otherwise if a Touring trim does arrive for my dealer, even though I may be next in line, it wouldn't go to me.

So hopefully I get some good news next week.

That is a common legal tactic. If I tell you that you can’t you, it reduces the risk that you sue. Surprisingly many people listen to clauses like that.

After 90 days you can cancel, but if you don’t they still have to deliver. If they weren’t obligated to provide anything then why did they make you give a deposit and sign documents detailing the vehicle they would pay provide???

If it’s that bad, maybe us Canadians should go south and ask for a discount equal to the rebate we would miss out on by not buying Canadian. Worst they say is ‘no’

That is good they were honest with you. Yes, obviously you couldn’t claim for decrease in trade in if they told you about it up front.

The U.S. gets a different car so I would get a VIN and check with the government. You also have to deal with import stuff.

The problem with buying a Honda in the US is no warranty transfer to Canada. When I heard that US had power seats that's the first thing I thought of.

There are some manufacturers that allow you to transfer the warranty to Canada like Audi, Toyota, Ford, etc. But not Honda.

Even if you want to go to the US to get your warranty, lots of manufacturers have clauses that the car is registered in the US and used there. If not, warranty is void. I wouldn't personally risk it.

Not getting it this year and waiting for a 2019, the only thing I can think of that may be a saving grace is memory power seats may be in the 2019 model.

Transport Canada website says they are ok to import into Canada, all Honda models are for 2018.

And rebate site says

“Eligible vehicles can be either purchased or leased within or outside of Ontario by the original purchaser or lessee but must be registeres in Ontario. Vehicles must meet all program criteria and cannot receive another incentive from another province/state or Canadian/US federal government.”
