Niro EV availability

Why would the dealer invite me in for a demo and tell me that there will be no allotment for Ontario. Especially, if I already bought one EV from them .... doesn't make sense to me, but we will see soon.

Yes, the Bolt low end trim is about only 60kWh which will fit the rule without playing some shennenigans on the car company side. Having said that, it's really no overall match for the Niro EV, Kona EV, Tesla low range etc .... in my opinion. I would feel I am settling on too many fronts. Not what I plan to do for something as expensive as long range EV car.
 
You can't get adaptive cruise on the Bolt, in any trim AFAIK.
Otherwise it has pretty much everything I want.
I suspect it handles better than the Niro, but has less space.
If/when things settle, and if a low-end, rebate-able Niro actually appears, I'll have to test drive the two and see.
Based on specs/reviews alone, the Kona is my current favorite.
But I'm really not sure whether there'll ever be a rebate-able version of that appearing in Ontario.
Will have to talk to the wife about moving to PQ or BC ... :rolleyes:
 
You really need to go see the cars. Kona is very small, especially in the back cargo space. The Bolt has terrible seats, everywhere, the chassis is not as compliant because it has straight axle in the back. Smallest battery, no heat pump etc. It's OK car... But why to settle for OK car if you spend as much.

In my opinion the Niro is the best vehicle under 60K at the moment. But we all have different tastes, right ...

I would not move because of a car, but I can see why you are tempted .. LOL
 
So now the wait is still on for the US market. Seems like we are at the bottom of the list. I think the rest of the world has the EV now. Probably waiting to see if there are any tarriffs to deal with.
 
I think it has a lot more to do with their overall production numbers and demand elsewhere than Canada.

Anyways, the Canadian government has released details and vehicles approved for the rebate. The issue is available cars in Ontario ... at least the good part is that you can take a car for sub 50K and trim it up to 55K ... Maybe 2020 Soul EV, if it's not too small of a car overall for you.
 
Also just talked to the local Kia dealer in Bracebridge, Ontario. He has a mechanic getting full BEV training and another one will start training when the first returns. Apparently they are required to have two BEV trained mechanics in house. But he doesn't know when he'll see any of the new EV Niros or Souls.
 
Kia will not sell low range Niro in Canada anytime soon. Plus to me they don't make sense in low range version. Low range means city or around car driving. I doubt you would want such car for longer trips. For city driving I find the Soul much better deal. And they will probably sell here the lower range version in 2020. But even the 2019, ver 2.0 is very good city car and you mind find a good deal on them maybe.
