I am new to EV , I have a new EV countryman E 2025, I charge at work at a bit of a discount, not at home.

I am confused regarding pre con battery and cabin before use when it is cold , cold I mean around 3c range outside, should I be doing this before setting off ? it will be from not in a charger if that make sense!

Does the new Countryman EV (or any of the new MINI EVs) have preconditioning? The original SE does not, just climatization. My experience is battery conditioning isn't needed, driving will warm up the batteries. As for climatization, it's a question of comfort. If you can afford the 3% or so battery use to stay comfortable go for it.

Personally I don't think 3 ºC is cold at all for battery chemistry, so I wouldn't be concerned.

The F56 BEV has battery preconditioning if there is an EVSE connected and a departure time is set at least 3 hours in advance.

I am not certain on the U25, but it is a huge battery hog in the winter. Cold soaking outdoors at -22F (-30C) the max range of the U25 drops to about 120km, which is about a 65% range loss from the 341km max range!

While that may be technically true, I'd argue that it's an internal function and shouldn't really be called "preconditioning" since it's not something a driver can easily control. Just like there's battery cooling as well but there is zero user control of it.
