new clarity electric range?

I got a new 2019 clarity last weekend, drove about 800 km so far. it's a canadian base model.

when the electric battery is fully charged, it only shows a range of 69 km, not 75 km as rated.

is this normal?

it doesn't matter if it's plugged in a level 2 charger or a level 1 charger.

the car was new when I bought it, only had 15 km on the odometer, and was made in december 2018.

when I drove it from the dealer, I drove roughly 80 km in EV mode before the battery was fully drained (2 bars left, showing 0 electric range left). I know the range displayed is only an estimate and the actual range depends on the driving conditions, weather etc, but why is it estimating just 69 km when full?

The battery range will vary greatly as a function of your driving style, outdoor temperatures, use of heater/air conditioner etc. I live in Ottawa and over the past 11 months and 23000 km have had battery ranges from 34-90 km! Over my 23000 km I have averaged 2.2 l/100 km of gas consumption.

Yes, it is normal for a new member to fail to search for existing questions just like the one posted above.

Two main reasons:
1. The estimates are calculated using past driving and you need more trips and milage to give it enough data to more accurately predict your range.
2. There are a lot of factors that will have a large impact in range such as driving conditions, driver’s style (lead foot vs. conservative), temperature, use of heat (and to a lesser extent AC), and load, to name a few. Be aware that meeting the EPA #s will depend on the above and will usually average out over a calendar year (under in the winter and over in the summer).

So don’t panic yet; give it a little more time to learn your particular driving style and conditions. Then it will be closer to real life.

For example, I’ve been getting low to mid 60s EV range (miles) for the last month since mild weather appeared. But I disconnected the 12 V battery to install a Deltran Battery Tender connector. This reset all the data and now my EV range is 42 miles and my HV went up from 250 to 262. I have no doubt that in a little while it will come back to my “normal”.
