Nearly hit from behind because Clarity slamed on the brake

Random example I’m in center lane and car is in left lane. It decides to merge in front of me. I know darn well there is no danger but Clarity sees sudden closure of gap so I know from past experiences it’s gonna brake. I’d rather coast. So I tap tha cancel button and car coasts for a couple seconds. Then as soon as cars are going same speed again I tap the resume button. Life goes on. Bear in line I have about 100k miles of driving behind my belt with Honda Sensing on another car. So I can predict what the car is gonna do as soon as I see someone else’s turn signal. It just comes with experience.
I rented a 2017 Toyota Corolla on a trip to Canada a couple of years ago that had ACC. In the example you gave, the Toyota would only brake if the car merging in front of me was traveling slightly slower or the same speed as I was driving. Otherwise, it would do nothing. The car never hit the brakes hard but would gradually slow down when coming up behind a slower car and would accelerate rapidly if I changed to an empty lane. I never had to adjust for the ACC. The ACC in the Clarity needs an update.

I agree 100%. That’s why I said in earlier in post #13 here, that Toyota simply has a better system. I’ve driven one too in a RAV4 and it works MUCH better than any Honda does.

But bear in mind we will NEVER get an update. Honda doesn’t do that. They will update their new cars someday, but never go back to the old cars.

So in the meantime I learn to drive with the system I’m stuck with for full length of ownership. And I’ll likely shop other brands next time as a result.
