So I bought a 2022 SE Premium in March 2025 from a used car dealer with excellent reviews and EV car selling inventory and experience. I bought it knowingly as a manufacturer buyback forced by the previous owner who lemon lawed it because of the 12v battery failure 3 times. The car had 10k miles on it when I bought it and was told by the used dealer before and at the time of signing the papers that it was a buyback lemon law and had the balance of the 10 year 100k mile battery powertrain warranty. So 6 years I had left on the warranty. I started hearing a screeching buzzing sound when on the accelerator and under load of ann on power. Turning Regen off and in different driving modes the sound continued. Upon research it seems the gearbox may be the issue so I took it to my local Hyundai dealer which is respected by local buyers of Hyundai. They could not hear the screeching buzzing sound and said it's the generated sound VSS system. I said I know the difference and it's not thatand when talking to the service rep on the phone he was great and said for me to stop by anytime and he will get in the car with me to take another listen at no cost. Which is good service but I said it's under warranty so diagnosis shouldn't cost me anything and he said, 'You have no warranty, your VIN has been flagged as no warranty". I said that's impossible the dealer I bought it from said I have the balance of the warranty. He said according to Hyundai since it's a Mfg. buyback the warranty doesn't apply. I went crazy, not on him but just venting. He gave me the number of the Hyundai warranty people and after a few days of researching she said you only have the basic 5 year warranty which is up in less than a year. So I plan to contact the dealer I bought it from and talk to them as it seems I was deceived. Did they know it didn't have the 10 year 100k warranty? Who knows. Do I work with them and get a lawyer? Maybe. Is it partially my fault for not contacting Hyundai warranty services to confirm the warranty? Maybe yes I should have but who does that? I just would like my powertrain and High Volt battery warranty back. I'll take a 5 year warranty. But it looks like I have an uphill battle with this. I told Hyundai that if the 12v battery issue was resolved why is the entire car powertrain warranty revoked? Hmmm. They had no clear answer but "That's what Hyundai does". I live in New Jersey and want to do as much as I can to get my car fixed without hiring a lawyer if possible. From what I can tell the motor and battery seem to be pretty good and may make it the life of the car but I'd like my warranty back.
Anyway this is a venting post and any constructive opinions are appreciated. I can understand some saying "I'll never buy a buyback". which is okay. Just avoid posting personal insults at my decision. I know some can't resist. lol
