Loud rattling fan when AC is on and when car is charging

So a couple of days ago, the fan started to sound louder than usual. If I turn the AC off it goes away, sure fan not running. But when I plug the car, the fan starts, I guess to cool the battery, and makes the loud rattling sound.

Took it to dealer, Sterling, and the guy hadn't a clue. Said I would need to pay $200 for a diagnostic.

Anyone had an issue with this.

I'm taking to Passport to see if the have a clue.

Probably the A/C compressor starting to fail. If so it sends metal throughout the system

Fortunately, the system in the SE is different from the one in the i3 or i8. You'd still be facing a $3-4k repair bill, but 1) at least the battery is isolated, and 2) such failures are rare.

That said, a loud buzzing or grinding noise could certainly be due to a pending compressor failure, so best to get it checked by someone who knows what they're doing.

Thanks for the good/bad news. Yes I intend to take it to a dealer next week.
