Looking for Clarity

Hello everyone
I have been a Clarity owner for one year now (2018 Touring CPO with 25k miles on it). I have been reading this forum, learning about the vehicle and enjoying the camaraderie of fellow owners. I trickle-charge the car nightly, and had seen full charge numbers vary from 34 to 53 miles, depending on the temperature and my driving style before the charge starts. Out of 12k miles for the last year, only ~1,600 were with ICE in use, with 39 total gallons of gas purchased. Given the low price of electricity in middle TN and current gas prices, I may have saved over $1k in gas alone. Performance has been decent (it's no Tesla, but it's plenty fast around town and on the interstate) and car is very comfortable. I particularly enjoy how quiet the ride is, the whirr of the electric motor during acceleration and a low-speed audible pedestrian warning (my kids love that feature). No problems to report. I have recently discovered that smudges on the screen can be easily avoided by using fingernails to tap on commands and icons. My friends are looking to buy one, but are unable to locate a new one in TN. If anyone knows of a new Clarity for sale, please let me know!

If you drove all 12K miles on gas at 40mpg, you would have used 300 gallons. At $3/gal that’s $900. Driving 10K miles on electric would have used approximately 2800kWh’s at 3.5 miles per kWh. If your electricity rates are $.10/kWh, that would have cost $280. So, you might be ahead about $600.

We have relatively inexpensive electricity in Oregon and we have some solar offsets. I figure, on average, it costs about a dollar for a full charge, which typically provides about the same range as a gallon of gas. Gas is currently over $3.50/gal here.

I also left CA for NV. Electricity was .20 to .25 per kWh, depending on the tier I fell. Here it's around .12 too. Gas is between 3.75 and 3.85 (around 3.40 last time I put at Costco two months ago). Tank is still almost full...

I'm in California and my EV rate is 9 cents per KWh. Comparing that to the current cost of gasoline, it's like getting 200 mpg.

That’s a good rate. Do you have a separate meter for EV charging?

We were with SCE. After we bought the Clarity we considered their TOU plans. The lowest rate was 19 cents for certain hours and the highest was 44 cents. We opted to stay with a Tiered plan at something around 25 cents. We rented the house, so adding a second meter was not an option.

Interestingly, after buying the car, we received notices from SCE informing us how naughty we were for using more electricity than our neighbors. It stuck me as peculiar, that a company in the business of selling electricity would discourage customers from buying more of its product.

Landshark,

No, the EV rate is based on TOU, midnight to 6AM. So anythiing I have plugged in during that timeframe will get the EV rate. I am up in Sacramento where we have lots of hydro generation so electricity is cheaper than in SoCal. Even on-peak is only 15 cents this time of year. During summer, the EV rate goes up to 13 cents per KWh and on-peak goes to 31 cents.
