Hi everyone ,

iv got a kona ev 2020 which doesn’t have the VESS button. I have unplugged the speaker that is on the front bumper under the hood lock. However that has only eliminated the reverse sound. The sound is definitely a generated sound as it only turns on when you press the accelerator pedal and turns off when cruising. iv looked online and only found something about a ESG device in other Hyundai cars. Does anyone have any information about this cabin engine noise.

I 'thought' the Kona was the same as the Niro which is the same device forward and back.
Maybe not a generated noise?

It could be inverter hiss - the electrical switching done by the inverter is at a frequency (just) low enough to hear, of your ears aren't aged. It is somewhat audible (especially when driving slowly with windows down, next to a wall)

Welcome to first gen EV ownership ;) newer Hyundai EVs don't do it.

These are the codes that come up when I scan it with a Bluetooth dongle. Also it’s started to make a clunk sound when going into drive but only makes that clunk sound at the beginning. Sounds like gearbox issue but not sure if it’s both the gearbox and motor or just reduction box. Since I last posted Iv done 20k miles and drives fine apart from the noises Iv mentioned.

I am not sure what to replace, as online there’s mention of multiple things hopefully with that OBD reading it can narrow it down.
Any guidance is appreciated.
Thanks
