Keep hands on steering wheel

I haven't tried to conclusively determine this, but when I used to use LFA while driving with cruise control on the interstate at typical highway speeds, it appeared that SOC was dropping surprisingly quickly, and once I disabled the setting, SOC appeared to drop at a lesser rate. I've stopped using it and don't mind in the least keeping myself in travel lanes manually. ;-) Has anyone else observed this?

When I got my car, it wasn't in the active mode - just regular LKA. Once I figured out there was something to change, I turned it on, and have grown to like it.

Like everything else, there are subtleties to it, and you eventually learn the types of conditions that it doesn't handle well. Long fairly straight are where it excels.

I can't think of a reason why this would be the case.

Like everything else, there are subtleties to it, and you eventually learn the types of conditions that it doesn't handle well. Long fairly straight are where it excels.

Yes, I have tried it on the straight freeways, and works well there. But most of our roads here are mountainous and winding, and there is just too much intervention in those situations for my liking. So I mostly have Active turned off. Just LKA is OK, as I don't mind the warning beep and nudge if I get too close to the edge of the lane.

The only beef I have with the system is that it sometimes thinks my hands aren't on the wheel, and it bugs me to take a hold. Especially true on straight sections where I really don't need to make many corrections.

I know that some people have come up with ways on Tesla to defeat the sensors and make the car think you were really holding the wheel. I assume similar hacks would work for Kona, but doing so just seems like a really bad idea in general. Doing such a thing would encourage people to stop paying attention, and if you ran into a situation that the LKA couldn't really handle, you might not notice in time to prevent an accident.

Yeah, that's another thing. What's the point of letting the car keep you centered in the lane, if it nags you to intervene.

It is a driving assist system, so it will assist you in keeping centered in the lane. It can deactivate any time and it does. E.x. when there is an exit ahead and the lanes get wider (no dashed line) it will deactivate. That and - as you all know - there is a lot of other situations that it can't handle, is the reason you have to have your hands on the wheel.

The way it detects that is small subtle inputs that we do against what the car does. If you wiggle the steering wheel every 15 seconds, it will be quiet. That wiggle can be very subtle and it will be happy and never nag you.
