BMW builds the petrol-powered X5 on BMW's CLAR platform in South Carolina. Because the iX5 will share the same platform, changes to the factory will be minimal compared to the changes required to BMW's plants in Munich (i3), Hungary (iX3), and Mexico (iX3) to build vehicles on their Neue Klasse platform.
Compared to the iX3, the iX5's bigger battery, larger size, more luxurious appointments, and petrol-powered SUV platform will likely make it very much heavier.
