Is the original rear mirror of any value?

Why don't they put homelink in the standard configuration? I can't imagine a pro s without homelink. Just put the new mirror on, but anywhere I can sell the old one?

I think it is the licensing fees from Gentec that pushed manufacturers to not include it by default.

I suppose anyone who paid $50k+ to buy the car should not care too much about the price of a homelink. Maybe in Germany they don't need this, and my car is made in Germany.

Interesting.

Does this mean that a brand-new Pro-S AWD does NOT have the capability "as-delivered" to open garage doors and security gates?

If not, what additional "bits of kit" are required?

Correct. All you need is a replacement rear view mirror that has this functionality. You can order the part from VW, and it is a 5 minute DIY install.

The dealer will install for you if you like, but they might charge an insane amount for labor. The car already has all of the required wiring
