It seems that one of the challenges to all autonomous driving systems is the ability to recognize and stop for stationary objects without giving a plethora of false stops. It got me thinking of whether a sensor could be added cheap enough to all existing vehicles in a way that new autonomous vehicles could easily monitor them. Furthermore, if an app could be downloaded for phones to alert autonomous systems of pedestrians? Could the phone app also assist the stationary vehicles?
Is it feasible to add a V2V sensor in every car to make autonomous drive a reality?

Universal, no, but it could support highway vehicle platooning.

The problem is that a crash results in a stationary vehicle and in all probability any 'sensors' or transmitters on it will stop working which other vehicles will then no be able to monitor. It works all teh time except when you need it!
I reckon that if vehicles can't recognise stationary objects you might as well pack up and go home!
