Has anyone been successful in getting text messages from an iPhone to the Clarity? I can get them with an Android phone, but neither my wife's nor my iPhone (an X & an XS) can successfully get text messages on the Clarity's screen.

On screen? No. CarPlay reads them to you so eyes stay on the road.
That’s what I thought, but I think that might be a Bluetooth limitation of the IPhone. The Samsung Galaxy phone I tested does transmit texts through Bluetooth without the need of a physical connection. The Clarity then reads the message to you. So like CarPlay, you don’t have to actually ‘read’ the message. It would be nice to be able to do it wirelessly like the Android.

never had android with clarity, but if I understand you, your phone prompts you when you get a text message when only by bluetooth? For iPhone (afaik, not a techie), you can prompt siri to check if you have any new message and "she'll" read it to you but (again, afaik) she does Not initiate the conversation like when my iPhone is wired on to CarPlay.

P.S. Assume you're not simply wishing you can read messages while driving... cos there's whole lot of other reasons for that to be No, right now :)

Yes, no interest in 'reading' messages as I drive. But with the Android phone sitting on a seat, a message comes in and the Clarity screen alerts you. At that point you can have the car read the message to you. You can't do that with the iPhone. Only using CarPlay can simulate that. The convenience of no wired connection as with Bluetooth, is something I would have liked. But it is what it is.

It's obvious the Bluetooth protocol on Android is different than the more restricted Bluetooth on the iPhone.

On the phone:
Settings > Bluetooth

Press the blue info circle next to your cars Bluetooth name.

Make sure “show notifications” is turned on.

Sorry, but that’s incorrect.
The Clarity will alert me if my iPhone receives a text message and ask at both the IC and on the main display if I want to “hear” the text message. This is when I’m connected via Bluetooth.

If connected by cable to the USB input on the LH side (CarPlay mode) then I will only get an alert on the main display at the top of the screen, similar to an iPhone notification.

(As another poster mentioned, notifications have to be switched on as well or it won’t function this way)

Ken7, this is most likely the answer to your issue. It was for me using an Xr.

This is truly bizarre. My wife has a X and I have an XS and both have ‘show notifications’ box checked, and neither of us receives messages on the screen (nor the option of having them read).

We did earlier to no avail. Let me ask you this, did you do a 'custom screen' as I did? I'm wondering if that could be a factor in some way. Probably not, but I thought I'd ask. It's weird that it works with the Samsung Galaxy and not our iPhones.

I'm assuming there must be other Clarity owners who have an iPhone that can chime in.

Maybe you have "read text message" set to off in the car's settings menu. See page 346 of the owners manual.

Yup, it’s checked. I may go back to the stock screen layout to see if that doesn’t impact this.

Well go figure, after repeatedly pressing buttons on the Clarity, all of which were previously pressed, both my wife's and my iPhone now work! Hooray!!!!

I have no clue what happened prior, but all's well that ends well. :_
