I've been surprised at the LOW premium for this Clarity. The six-month premium now is slightly LESS than HALF of what the six-month premium was for our 2012 Plug-in PRIUS that the 2018 Clarity replaced … It makes me wonder if the difference is because there's simply a lack of repair data so far, and that we'll get slammed in another year or two with an increase once some claims start being made and insurance adjusters learn how much it costs to fix the car.
 
What insurance company?

Mine was a bit higher than my 2012 Quest minivan, but would expect it since it is worth more.

They might have changed your rating or something?

Maybe, we use 21st Century. And yes, I would've expected a change, too, just based on increased value of the car. Same coverage as before, but possibly as you mentioned some rating changed. It's one of those things you don't really want to call and ask about…
 
Mine was way higher than my 2010 Prius V. It is with Frankenmuth Insurance. They had to do some research before they could even give me a quote. They said it was the first Clarity they insured so I wonder if they now have more up-to-date data on the car that might lower the rate. I feel like they pulled their number out of their butt anyway.

This sounds almost like the opposite of my case. Except for the number they pulled out of their AZZZZZZtecs! (Go Aztecs!)

You're hoping your ins co realizes their number's too high; I'm concerned my ins co will realize the number's too low. LOL
 
If your previous car did not have active safety features then the new car should be reasonable if not better in cost.
 
My insurance for the Clarity is surprisingly low for a $37000 car. Unfortunately, it looks like it is very expensive to repair. Someone backed into my front bumper recently. You could barely notice the damage and the initial estimate was just to repair the plastic bumper cover and repaint (a little over $500). When they pulled off the cover, they found all kinds of other damage so it ended up costing just short of $3000. Despite that, the most important criterion for determining insurance rates is the typical driver who buys that model. Just for fun, I had gotten an insurance quote for the Civic Si. Even though that car is $13,000 less expensive than the Clarity, the quote was much higher (typical Si driver is a twenty something male). If you think about it, the typical Clarity owner will likely be the most safe and responsible driver out there so we will be in far fewer accidents. No doubt we are the most intelligent :D!

Would someone tell me the name of their ins carrier where they got a good rate because Allstate in Kentucky wants $1,800+ per year for my 2018 Clarity touring!!!
Coming from a 10 yr old C-RV that was a shocker.

If you are a Costco member I've found that their Ameriprise insurance partnership has excellent rates for both auto and home. They've consistently been the best for our vehicles and home.

About $850 a year in Iowa using Farm Bureau (Iowa is pretty cheap for insurance and nothing to dock my rates). Progressive had good rates for me previously with other cars. My Farm Bureau is actually a bit more expensive then progressive for auto, but combined house policy was cheaper.
 
Thanks so much for giving me some benchmarks. After complaining, Allstate rewrote policy to $1,193/yr.
That’s w bundling home and all the discounts/safe driving I could get. Also with $500 deductible collision/$250 comp and 100/300K PIP.
Armed with your rates, I’m still going shopping to see if I can get under $900 like most are reporting. I’d even be happy w $900 at this point.
 
Of course it should be cheaper compared to many other vehicles. While it is a $40k vehicle, it has active measures to avoid collisions and in the event it is stolen you can pull up on the HondaLink app the vehicles location. Combined that is a pretty significant decrease in risk.

Additionally, the average driver profile for this type of vehicle certainly won’t be a risky driver. More like a person who drives for fuel efficiency.

I had liberty mutual that wanted $1400 a year for comprehensive and collision with $500 deductibles on a 2018 touring. I switched to Geico for $399.60 every 6 months, same coverage. This is in New York state.

I think the small engine and limited data is helping our rates, hopefully it doesn't go up.
 
We’re just under $800/yr in Oregon through USAA on a 2019 Touring, with deductibles of $500/250. By comparison, the 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee is just a bit lower at ~$750.
