As a Tesla Model 3 Owner, I posted this on a Tesla forum first.
(https://teslaownersonline.com/threads/indiana-ev-penalty.13406/) However, I am sure there are others that are thinking about owning EV's in Indiana, so I had to share.
Tonight I was looking around for additional credits / incentives for owning an EV here in Hamilton County Indiana. I know that lots of other states offer tax credits and incentives for owning an EV, so I thought that maybe I might be missing out on something here in Indiana.
Turns out, Indiana doesn't offer any incentives or rebates on an EV. Instead, they hit us up for an additional $150 on registration. I couldn't believe it, so I checked my BMV payments and sure enough, I paid an extra $150 for owning an EV.
And yes, I paid $618.35 for a license plate on my 3 for a little under 8 Months...
I emailed my State rep - Todd Huston ([email protected]) to let him know how ridiculous that is. Feel free to send him your thoughts as well...
I guess that no big surprise when 70% of our power comes from Coal (https://afdc.energy.gov/vehicles/electric_emissions.html ):
