HondaLink - Question

Bought my Clarity Base a few days ago and been trying to keep track of EV range vs actual miles driven. My wife drives the car, so during the day it is sitting at a parking ramp far far away from my phone.

So my question is, how can I see the EV range left on the car on my phone's HondaLink app when the car is not home? When home (presumably through my home WIFI) I believe the car uploads information to the HondaLink servers. But when it is sitting at a parking lot with no WIFI connectivity, is there a way to get the information out of the car and in to the cloud so that I can pull it up on my phone from home?

Full disclosure: I do not have a day job and admit all I do is refreshing my app all day!! :)

As Jason said the car communicates by cellular packet data. As long as Car and cell phone have a good enough cellular signal and Honda’s server is up, then it doesn’t matter where either are located.
And you must activate it first.
One person is primary driver and others are added by going to Vehicle then Manage Drivers and sending them an email invitation.

I should have made this clear earlier - I had already completed the setup steps as shown in the video. I have set my self up as the primary driver and we just use the same login on my Wife's phone too. With that said, here (attached screenshot) is what I'm seeing now when the car is sitting at a parking lot about 20 miles away. But when the car is home in the evening, I see proper values for both 'EV' and 'Battery'. I'm wondering why the discrepancy based on the car's location.

Aperson, it works all the time for me. Home and when out shopping/eating. I’ve never seen this.
Now it is normal not to get instant updates and have updates “lag” as in not having real time updates. This is because Honda is paying for all our Honda Link bandwidth w the cellular carriers. To save on $/bandwidth, only certain events will trigger an update such as car turn on/off, charging started/stopped, and at defined SOC (every 15% I think).
One suggestion to trouble shoot this is to have your wife check at that location that car is getting a good signal at the time you try your HL. At shutdown she will see an antenna symbol and signal strength bars on the DDI (view thru steering wheel). Also if at same time you can’t get it to work, can she do it from her phone? And does it do this at other locations? This will possibly help narrow down where the problem is. Might also try doing the secondary driver thing in case both of you using same log in is messing it up somehow. (Hey, stranger things have happened) And remember that HL doesn’t work when car is moving.
Post what you find out and we’ll keep trying.
 
KentuckyKen, I think you are spot on about only certain events triggering the update. I was playing around with the app and think figured out how to trigger an update. Went in to 'Vehicle' --> 'Find My Car' --> 'Locate Vehicle'. Figured that when locating the vehicle perhaps there is a chance that the Range/Battery numbers are also updated. Bingo!!! Attached screenshot below. Notice the 62% battery remaining after a 26mile drive. That is about 28 cents cost base on my rates. Cannot stop smiling!! :)

FYI: some have reported odometer not updating every time rest of info updates, but mine has only done that once and only for one day. Thanks for observation that find my car can trigger an update. Good to know.

Love mine too. 1,500 miles and only 2 gal of gas.

Mine works more than 80% of the time, but LOL, it's not working right now. Just keeps crashing. Bah! All I get is a blank page with HondaLink and a tiny little tire at the bottom. Stays like that for about 15 seconds and then crash/quits. Worked earlier today, though.

I've tried this procedure, the odometer reading did not update. The odometer date/mileage remains stuck on April 17th.

I get a message when charging is complete. The EV and HV ranges are up to date (with the standard HV range-inflation caveat). The car's location is correct (although this info doesn't always update in a timely fashion). However, the odometer data just won't update along with the other data.

I called Honda's Hondalink people in December about this problem, but was not rewarded with a solution.

Don’t know if this will help or not, but I’ve noticed that my odometer updates seem to have the date/time of the last time I’ve turned off the car.
See if turning on and turning off Car and then checking w Honda Link app helps any.
I’ve also noticed that when my odometer update lags behind the other updates (not very often for me) it’s when I have driven short or no distance that day. I don’t know; could it also have a minimum distance necessary to trigger it? Could some more people check to see if this is going on or not?
 
Our Clarity has been driven many times since April 17th. I drove it twice today after yesterday's complaint. But the date/odometer is still stuck on what it read on April 17th.

The Hondalink software successfully updates the EV/HV range and battery state-of-charge every time we drive our Clarity. It reliably sends me a message when the charging is complete. So how can it be random when it comes to updating the date/odometer info?

The only explanation I can imagine is that the data packet the Clarity sends off to the cellular network ends with the date/odometer info and it somehow gets truncated (a time-out problem? a too-much-data-for-packet problem?)--and it sends the data packet only once after each drive.
