Have you bought a jack for taveling?

What jack have you bought? I really like the idea of an electric, but I keep seeing horror story reviews. Non-electric jacks are so prevalent that it's virtually impossible to decide. We are going to take a couple of long trips and I don't have a comfort level with the sealer. Too much damage and it's worthless. I already have a doughnut spare.

Help!
 
I bought a Honda Accord jack kit with the jack,handle, and lug wrench off EBay. I confirmed it fit under the car with a flat tire and could lift the weight. It came in an OEM box that fits in the cubby under the trunk with my tool kit, owners manual, and NOCO jump starter. Along with the compact spare, I feel confident on trips I won’t have to wait for a tow for a tire problem.

I put one of the bolt on jack adapters to 1/2 inch drive and use a 1/2 inch ratcheting torque wrench (from Harbor Freight for $9.99 with coupon) to lift the car as it has tons of leverage. It isn't very fast, but you won't even break a sweat doing it that way. Keep everything in the car all the time. Some frown on using (abusing) a torque wrench like this, but this one is an extra that I only use for this purpose as it stays in the trunk.

Looks like I ended up going down the same road. I'll carry my cordless Milwaukee on long trips and keep the torque wrench in for local. This is the wrench I have. Lug nuts will come off.

I too bought a Honda jack kit and it comes in a nice bag that makes it easy to keep track of. Thanks for the great idea of adding a ratcheting helper.

I might suggest you also put a couple of short pieces of treated wood like deck boards or 2x6s to chuck under the jack to increase its footprint and reduce pressure per area in case you have to jack on soft dirt.

I throw the jack, 2 pieces of old deck board along with a spare when I take a trip out of town. Also bought a cheap tire cover off eBay for the spare that keeps the trunk clean and will be especially helpful to put on that removed flat tire which will be quite dirty. Gotta keep the ol’ Clarity squeaky clean.

Here is the cover I got for less ran $13, shipping included. I picked the XXL size so to would fit the OEM size tire that will be removed when flat and put in the trunk. You gotta remember that the flat tire you take off will be dirty and could be very messy if Mr Murphy gives you a flat tire in the rain.

Any brand/model info for that jack? Everything I am finding has lots of "it failed" comments in reviews. That's why I ended up with the one I posted about.

Be careful using a board. On soft or uneven ground a board can split and fail suddenly. Use a small piece of 3/4 plywood instead. I carry a 10” circle of that in both my vehicles for jacking.

Best advice I’ve ever been given is to never ever stick anything, including body parts, under a car that you don’t want squished flat unless you have back up support.
As in the old prepper saying, “One is none, and two is one.”
 
I saw jacks for accord and odyssey listed above and I also read that since clarity is > 4000lbs, a jack that can lift 2 ton will be required and also we may need to lift the rear higher in order to remove the wheel. Anyone actually tried the one they bought and can recommend?
 
2020 Honda Odyssey/Curb weight 4,354 to 4,593 lbs
Heavier than the Clarity.

No problem getting the wheel off w/o raising to an uncomfortable height.

I bought the one for Odyssey. I've used it twice and it worked fine.
 
Considering there are threads about "dream cross country trips" in these cars, it is a very appropriate topic. Seems we need a "survival" kit for the Clarity that includes a recommended:
  • mini spare tire
  • jack
  • portable charging cable (EVSE) and adapters for RV parks
  • heavy duty extension cord
  • tool kit
  • wheel chocks
  • extra tire seal inflater tank
  • sealed tank of gas or two (TruFuel) in the trunk with funnel
  • and some Honda coolant just in case
  • small 12 volts booster battery for starting
Maybe a cooler with a case of beer if the above fails and it gets serious!

Then we are ready for that trip across Arizona or around Big Bend...

Hmmm, maybe I am just getting cabin fever right now and need to think about going anywhere that is a long ways away from where I am right now...

Jimmy Buffet was right, just didn't know about covid when he wrote that song!
