Has anyone added a light to the storage area under gear selector?

It seems to turn off when the car turns off so nothing so far. I used the passenger usb and 12v. The 12v has a cover that flips up which allows you to keep it horizontal so the the light shines down .

Yes it's on when the car is on just like ambient lighting . One thing I noticed is the usb is powered during pre conditioning and the 12v is not
