To stop the stupid flap open message on the cooper you need to go into the computer via OBD port and change the settings to turn the darn thing off. Pretty simple .

Thanks for finding that video. I hope I never need to fix that problem, but it's very interesting to see the procedure.

If one were wishing to add a second, powered light to the charge port, that task would be easier to accomplish while replacing the interior cover assembly with the broken switch.

In 2022, @Wreckless117 didn't have this helpful video before he tackled the job of adding a second charging port light, so he didn't know about using a screwdriver to unhook the tabs holding the charge-port's interior cover assembly in place. However, his task was tougher than replacing the cover assembly because he didn't want to break the tabs that hold the original assembly in place. See his OEM Charge Port Light Mod post in this forum.

my 2021 car has had the charge flap done under warranty a few months back, but as you say really helpful to see the tricks with screw driver turns save a lot of damage :)

Hey that video shows how trivial it is to remove the charge port covers. I've been wondering about it, since the SE is the only EV I know of with plastic plug covers and I've wondered if they are an unnecessary complication.

I still haven't replaced my second sensor, but I noticed that when the weather warms up (socal), the error turns off...
... until I make a right turn or go over a speed bump. Left turns are fine. I'm wondering if it's loose and maybe that's why the error only shows up on right turns. I'm going to watch the video above and take a look at it from the boot.

I got this alert in the middle of an autocross run yesterday. Cleared with key cycle and did not return.

Prior to that I've gotten it twice in the winter / icy conditions.

That YouTube video is gold. Bet water gets in through the plunger stem. And bet the issue affects people that charge outside far more than indoor charging people. My car sits with the door open in the rain all the time, so likely I'm going to need a new actuator sooner than later. Wonder if you can grease up that plunger stem to help slow the water.

My warranty runs out in a month and my car has just started throwing errors. They mostly come on or go away when the car is just sitting. No amount of playing with the flap will get rid of one. It went off on its own on Friday, but went to Mini dealer yesterday. They are really bad at denying claims for intermittent faults.

Ours started popping up around 48kmi intermittently, then popped on and wouldn’t go away around 49.8k. Slid it in for warranty service (along with replacing the headlight surround trim pieces which started to bubble). No issues since. It did start after we started parking it outside; maybe a coincidence? Is back in the garage now

I paid $70 for a replacement. The sensor comes off by removing two torx screws. If the old one is accessible from the interior, it would be nice not to have to remove the entire flap assembly.

If that charging flap ever fails on me as an old DIY guy I glue with epoxy 2 magnets on I each sides on assembly and use a credit card to open for charging flap so far as warranty expires soon that crub works flawlessly as in 70ties or 80ties was no any locks on gasoline cars and nobody will try to steal my electrons from EV without locked flap 3 yr /7 month in NY flap works flawlessly.car is in garage all a time .

Finally got around to installing my new sensor/housing. I don't see how you can access the sensor by itself w/o removing the entire housing b/c the only access is a small hole for the wiring to pass through.

Unlike in the video, I didn't have to cut the rubber gasket surrounding the charge ports in order to pull the housing out. Instead, I just pushed the gasket to the side of the ports, creating a gap big enough to get some purchase and pull the housing.

Upon inspecting my old sensor, it was definitely corroded from water ingress. I'm going to slather the new plunger w/ more grease to see if that helps keep the moisture out.

Installation process only took about 20-30 min.
