And how effective is the sound when most pedestrians are more fixated on their phones than where they are walking?

I would like to have an on/off switch for the pedestrian warning. My reason is there are times when I'm slowly driving through a busy parking lot (like CostCo) and there are people walking in the lane. I don't want them to think I'm pushing them. I'm quite happy to go slowly and only advance when they move out of the way on their own. In that case I find the sound (not just the Clarity but any other car required to make a sound) to be aggressive. I'm fine if the sound reengages each time I power the car up, I just want a button to turn it off for a time.
Agreed. There is no problem in putting this in the law. But giving the driver an option to disable it temporarily would be nice.

I like the sound and I think it’s an important safety feature. The way humans integrate input from our 5 primary senses to stay alive is truly amazing. In this day and age, having something dangerous like a moving vehicle affect both our sight and hearing is a good idea. Especially in the Costco parking lot! Kudos to Honda for making it a pleasant sound.
