EV Tax Credits Expiring in 2019?

I wouldn't think that people who buy Tesla's are overly concerned about tax credits. What is $7500 when you can pay close to $100,000 for a car? What I'm saying is I doubt Tesla sales would take much of a hit if the tax credit went away. GM, Honda, Nissan, etc. would take a MASSIVE hit if the credit disappeared. I still would buy a Clarity, but I probably wouldn't have bought one when I did if there wasn't the tax credit.

At any rate the credit could well have been eliminated by the Republican Congress, but it wasn’t. Play whatever game of semantics you like, but the Reps could have killed it and they didn’t. What ever floats your boat.

Tax credits aside, it’s obvious from watching the media that no credit will be given to the President or any Rep for anything they do.

Unfortunately you’ve turned this into a political debate from your original anti-Rep post, which I feel has absolutely no place in a forum like this. That’s unfortunate. I was pulled too easily into this morass. I generally enjoy forums like this because they’re usually a respite from the relentless political bickering that goes on.

To help those who feel guilty or who are shamed by others for accepting tax breaks just ask yourself or others whether they feel guilty about using mortgage deductions for their house. I would argue encouraging people to use less carbon fuel is better for the world than encouraging people to buy a home

That's probably true for most Tesla buyers, but you might think otherwise if you spend any time on the Tesla forums. In my case it did allow me to buy the base level Model S @$71,500 minus $10,000 in tax credits at the federal and state levels. I would not have bought it had it not been for those credits. OTOH, like you, we still would have bought the Clarity with or without the rebates. The price for admission was that reasonable. With the credits, the car can only be described as 'a steal'. :)
 
Perhaps all the off topic political piss and vinegar expended in this thread would be better directed to everyone’s elected officials to try to achieve some lasting benefit.
