Electrify deal...

Looks like the "solution" for Kona owners is out.. 35 cents per minute and no session fee..
Based on my math, we still get screwed compared to Bolt owners.. A Bolt gets the same charge as a Kona in 60 minutes while the Kona takes 54 minutes for the same charge.
Bolt owners without the subscription fee pay 21 cents x 60 minutes = $12.60 + $1 session fee = $13.60.
Now, the Kona deal eliminates the session fee but in 54 minutes, it will cost $18.90 which is $6.30 more per session than Bolt owners... It is cheaper than EVgo but only barely.. Main difference is that you get slightly better speed on EA than EVgo.. They have a separate deal for Niro owners.. I wonder if it's the same as for Hyundai.
 
Thanks for the specifics. I'll report when their Kia version comes out. Sounds like nothing more than a "crumb", and not a real solution.

Electrify posted on their facebook page with the promotion code for the Hyndai specific solution.
At that price, I will use Electrify again but will still avoid them whenever there are cheaper options. Despite the cheaper rate, it's still expensive..
You will have to "sign up" for that rate by using the enrollment code HSCharging and you will also have to specify your VIN number..

It is a step in the right direction, eventually they will move to $/kWh like they are in California. At least this makes them an option again for now.
 
It definitely is a step in the right direction. Still way more expensive than if we were charged the 1-75kW rate but much better than the problem we had before.

Where did you find the enrollment code? I do see the plan in the app.

EVgo is basically the same price in my area, so it is matter of convenience.

I just did the math, comparing a road trip at the current rate with my Kona and my wife's 20 mpg Minivan..
Gas averages $2 per gallon in my area.
My wife'a Van has a 20 gallon tank which gets us 400 miles of range per tank. So, 400 miles cost $40 with her Van.. So, how much do 400 miles of range with EA with the Kona? On a road trip at the same speed as my wife's Van gets me at best 3.8 miles/kwh. That means that a 70% charge from 10 to 80% gives you 170 mile range at best. 170 miles cost $18.90 plus tax = $20. Therefore, 400 miles cost $47 on Electrify America.. Winner: 20 mpg Minivan. Of course, in Cali, the Kona would win but not anywhere close to me.. Most states around here have $2 or below gas prices.. Just as a comparison, 44.8 kwh of charge for a Tesla on their Superchargers cost $12.54. That makes it $29.50 for 400 miles.. Winner: Tesla

Here in Nevada gas is somewhere around $2.80. So the Kona is a close winner.
Honestly, I wish gas was more like $4 like it is in Europe ... [emoji2957][emoji44]

Just wait a week and you'll see even your gas prices close to $2.. Wholesale price for unleaded dropped to 88 cents per gallon yesterday and there are gas stations in Texas who already have gas prices at around $1.65 and it's dropping..
 
Around here, EVgo are 40kw chargers while EA are 150kw and 350kw chargers.

About 6 months ago, EVgo added some 80kW chargers not far from home. Then last week they opened some 200kW chargers (even with 100kW on Chademo) not far from the office. Those are 30 cents/minute. Until the EA deal came along, these things were generally a good fit for the Kona, and what I would use if the free 50kW charger was busy.

I am reaching the point where I stop charging between 70 and 75%. Even going up to 80%, the the charging tapers too much for my liking.

I rarely charge on "pay" chargers as we have too many choices for free Level 2 and even some free Level 3 chargers. I usually only use "pay" chargers when I drive to South Florida. I usually use their 50kw chargers which are limited to Tier 1 rates. I was planning a road trip to NC but the event that I was planning on going to was cancelled, so no road trip to NC for me any time soon.. At the current gas prices in the South and Southeast, driving my wife's Van is cheaper than driving the Kona, so if we travel somewhere, it'll be in the Van..
