Electrek demands your email address

For a long time, one of my sources for EV stories has been Electrek.co. Now they're demanding you sign up for their newsletter if you want to continue reading their website. That's a nope for me. I'm glad to have these InsideEVs forums, to which I willingly submitted my email address because it provided a benefit I wanted and it wasn't a requirement.

As an FYI - you can probably get around this by clearing your cookies or using incognito mode.

While I don't agree with it, I understand why they do it. Sites like this cost money to run. A Lot. Getting people on the newsletter ensures visits and traffic which increases ad exposure.

We are going to be installing ads on here again soon. There's ways around it -- eg, subscribing -- which 'covers' the cost and helps keep the site running. I intend to make them non-intrusive and will not stop anyone from viewing content.

I'm not seeing that, Electrek is loading as normal for me. I even tried with content blockers disabled. Hopefully this isn't some phased rollout.

I have a disposable, e-mail address on Outlook for such solicitations. My revenge for being forced to use Windows when I was employed.
