Does Anyone Else Find the Kia Niro’s Speedometer a Bit Challenging to Interpret at a Glance?

Hi everyone,

I’ve been driving my Kia Niro for a while now, and overall, I really enjoy how it feels behind the wheel. It's such a smooth ride and quite intuitive in most respects. However, I’ve noticed something about the speedometer that has me wondering if anyone else shares the same thoughts—or if it’s just me.

Let me paint the picture: on my daily commute, there’s a stretch of highway where speed changes often, and keeping track of my speed is critical. I find myself glancing down at the speedometer a lot more than I’d like, especially when there’s a lot going on around me. The display is sleek, yes, but I sometimes feel it requires a bit more focus than I’d expect to decipher my exact speed at a glance. This got me thinking—should a tool like the speedometer be designed differently to make it even more intuitive for drivers like me?

To give some background, the speedometer is essentially the instrument that measures and displays the speed of a vehicle. In modern vehicles like the Kia Niro, it often includes advanced features like virtual speed tracking for vehicles, which translates the car's motion into digital readings. While this is a crucial tool for maintaining safety and adhering to speed limits, I sometimes wonder if the way it’s presented visually could be more straightforward. For me, clearer and bolder displays might make it easier to quickly check my speed without taking too much attention away from the road.

I’m curious if others have noticed anything similar. Is it something you’ve adapted to over time, or do you find that you wish for a slightly different approach too? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this or any strategies you’ve found helpful when using the speedometer on your Niro.

Looking forward to hearing your insights!

I think there is a display function that will display your speed digitally. I use the speed control on the highway. If the speed drops I just hit the down button until the number at the top 'Cruise' bar shows the speed I want to go, and vice-versa.

The different driving modes have slightly different displays. I always run 'Normal', Eco is pointless, and I keep Regen on 1 for Normal, and control it with the brake pedal myself. Egg underfoot! I've never really had a problem reading the speed, but I like the look of the 'Sport Mode' dash the best.

I knew I had a picture somewhere. Mine is only a digital number with the eco bar for 0-130 MPH.

I don't Grok the difficulty in reading it. The Cruise info replaces the Icons at the top center of the display. I've never gotten this thing to 100% Economical for more than coasting out of the driveway. Took this when a friend told me I couldn't get above 96. Extremely hard to get above 97. This was from a commute back and forth to work, mixed interstate and surface streets. If you go over 65 you can kiss 99 goodbye.
