Discounts off MSRP?

Being short, the B pillar is already behind me LOL. But what I liked about the 4 door is all the windows went all the way down at least. The back doors are almost never used anymore now that the youngest is a teenager. My Civic Si was a 2 door so I am going back to my more fun pre-pregnancy style in a way (mine was a 2003 Si so also a hatch). The 0-60 and handling are much improved on the Minis though.

As a follow-up, I just concluded negotiations with a handful of dealers in a wide area around where I live. I settled for $1,000 off MSRP from a dealer whose position initially was that they do not discount the SE. I could have played even harder at it, but I felt pretty good when the initial reaction from dealers was "we don't discount". My technique did involve getting at least one dealer to discount, then sharing that with other dealers and giving them the chance to win my business.

There are state incentives here in California, quite a few.
  • CVRP allows a $2,000 rebate, income dependent (if you make too much, no rebate)
  • California Clean Fuel Reward allows a $1,500 rebate at the time of purchase (everyone in California)
  • PG&E will reimburse $800, too.

Has anyone in CA successfully submitted the new 2022 model for CVRP?

My dealer told me no such luck, MSRP or bust. Almost cancelled the deal in late Feb, but they didn't care. So I paid full. First SE sold in Northern Nevada, so they had me and they knew it. It's that kind of a dealership: old school, only BMW dealership within 150 miles. Talked me into an expensive bra. Sucker born on my birthday, that's for sure.

Don’t feel bad. It isn’t that common to get any car that you order under MSRP. The ones sitting on lots, sure. But ones ordered usually sell at full price, especially a new model like the SE.

Which is weird since the biggest risk to a dealer is buying a spec car and not selling off the lot before the end of the model year.

I test drove in Austin, since there was a 2021 on the lot for sale from a cancelled order. They wouldn’t budge on price. Dealer in southeast Houston caved on $500 off one I ordered.
