My order switched as well. I ordered a 2021 but 2022 was what the dealership had to order for me. I believe this added to the extra time of my order, but that is just speculation. Not long now, though!!!

I ordered a 2021 on Jan 6, 2021, and was told several weeks later that I would have to get a 2022 because they were switching over 'sooner' than they normally would to the next model year (that's what my salesman said). So I was among the first on the 2022. I received my build number on February 17, 2021, and it exited the factory on March 11, 2021.

It was kind of a silly process - I called the dealer and said I want to order a MINI. The salesman then sent me back to a link at the MINI USA website which let me choose the dealer, and then pay a $500 credit card deposit. The dealer was then notified by MINI USA that I had placed the deposit, the salesman called me back and told me thanks, now you have to wait until we have slots opening up. My "slot" opened up in February and I ended up taking delivery in May.

Silly indeed. I actually pre-ordered my SE the day they were announced (late October 2019 I believe), giving my dealer a $500 deposit. Then, when the official reservation site went live, my MA told me I had to go through the web site and do another $500 deposit. It was no big deal, because I got the $1000 credit when the SE was finally delivered in August 2020. I did have an opportunity for one of the 2020 models in March 2020, but none came in a color I wanted so I passed for a custom-built SE.

In fairness to my dealer, they were trying to let me reserve the SE before it was officially available for order. And it was MINI USA that imposed the "reserve through website" process, which I think is for the SE only.Hmm…seems some dealers know the drill, others get lost on the internet superhighway

I used the Mini website reservation and paid $250 on credit card. A little later a sales person from the dealer called me and we talked about the car and availability. Mini had said it would be about 3 months to get a car. I went in to the dealer so I could drive a gas model to be sure the size and driving position would work for me (I'm an older, big dude). I liked it and decided to order. They took an additional $750 deposit because their standard is $1000 down to order. They modified one of their existing orders for me and said that it should shorten the process to maybe 6 to 8 weeks. Got my production number that day, 8/8.
And there it sat at "Order accepted" until today. Now have a tentative production start during the week of 9/26. So just about 4 weeks to go from Ordered to Scheduled. At about 7 weeks for the build to start. Don't see any way it is going to beat Mini's original "3 month" timeline...probably slightly longer. The dealer was clueless, wrong or lying when he said it would be less because I got one of their existing order slots.

Actually, although pre-production prototypes (none of which had a hood scoop) had been seen on the roads for months, MINI's official SE announcement happened July 9, 2019.
On that day I was in a Canadian hotel room, returning from a vacation, cursing the slow wi-fi as I refreshed my Google search over-and-over. Finally, the press release and photos of the actual production model of the MINI Cooper SE appeared.
Despite my considerable disappointment when I saw MINI had added a hood scoop to their electric car at the last second, I ordered my SE the next month, expecting a March 2020 delivery. However, thanks to the factory's long pandemic shut-down, I didn't even get a 2020 model. My wonderful 2021 SE arrived nearly a year after I ordered it (sorry for again whining about my long wait--it was worth the wait).

Ordered my SE on 8/25/2021 (actually date I gave the dealer the okay that the order matched what I wanted). Took one week for me to get a production number from Mini. Now I suspect from their 3 week production shutdown, and normal delays, I don’t expect a scheduled build date until around October 1st. But I do want it to deliver in 2021 for the tax credit!

If anyone is interested, the latest ship from Southampton loaded with Mini SE's is the Torino. It left on September 6 for Belgium and is now on its way to Spain. Nova Scotia is the next port of call, then New York City. Finally, the Torino will dock at Brunswick, GA on the 24th of September (cross your fingers), and then moves on to Charleston, SC. Oooooh....the suspense!

The Apollon Highway also left Southampton on Sept 6 but it has a straight shot to Brunswick GA due to arrive Sept 16 and then on to Galveston TX on Sept 20.

Just found out that my Mini (well, my daughter's Mini) is on the Torino. Supposed to hit NYC on 9/21. Come on!
