Dealer markups are going away, what about for EVs?

I did put a deposit on a Leaf in 2011 and a Mini SE in 2021 before driving either. Both were fully refundable and I did get to test drive a Leaf and a Mini S before committing to buy. So I’m a bit of an early adopter too but I still need my test drive. I just love driving and need to be sure that the car will be engaging enough for me.

I'm surprised you found the Leaf engaging and surprised you had any doubts a MINI would be engaging enough for you.

It really depends on the skills of the reviewer. Without a teddy drive, I bought a 2014 BMW i3 and later 2019 Tesla Model 3 because Sandy Munro went deeper than the external surfaces. Engineering works for me.

I found the Leaf tolerable. It was comfortable for sure. And in 2012, it was my first experience with an electric drivetrain. Even though they have come a long way, everyone remembers their first time.

As for the Mini, I had never really driven a euro car before. I had mostly owned Hondas which are a good compromise of reliability and drive ability. I just didn’t understand the fuss. It took all of 30 seconds behind the wheel of my first Mini to really open my eyes!

The day my MINI Cooper SE arrived was my first time driving a BMW MINI and my first time driving an EV. My worries about MINI and EV over-hype vanished within a second.

I paid 1% under MSRP for my Mini SE and 1% off interest rate for loyalty. Our dealer which we already have a relationship with had a demo in stock for test drives. Pretty much done deal after that
