Curious CCS-1 charging

Late at night, I did not see the "ChargePoint" text in the faint light. So I used their credit card, RFID reader. Although the station reported ~$8.00, my card was only charged $1.00.

Then today, I repeated the test, using a credit card instead of the ChargePoint App, same result. Only a $1.00 expense charged to the credit card. Hummmm!

This could be a byproduct of the 'CrowdStrike' outage so I won't call it a bug. But it sure resembles a feature. Time to test with other CCS-1 chargers.

I get email receipts for each actual charge. Most recently was literally $0.05 as it was a test session. However, I have my credit card payment set up to autoreload $40 when the Chargepoint balance dips below $5.

Eventually, the balance caught up with my credit card. The initial $1 charge was augmented.

Saturday, two days ago, I charged my 2017 BMW i3-REx on a Magic Dock, Supercharger in Alabaster, AL:

  • $0.49/kWh - Tesla App invoice. The credit card supports my Tesla charging.
  • $0.42/kWh - Local ChargePoint rate
  • $0.36/kWh - Local native Tesla charging rate
Be sure to use the App to stop charging. The BMW i3-REx got a 'spike' with a 'Charger problem' error that cleared overnight at home on my L2 charger. There is a SuperCharger V4 with Magic Dock in Florence AL but the software does not support CCS-1 charging, yet.
