Crashed the 2019 Kona - Spontaneous Acceleration

Wondering if anyone has heard of this happening...
(Hyundai says they are investigating)

This was a normal driving situation. We were coming up to a light, and the car was almost at a complete stop. Nothing unusual except that it was a really cold day. Like maybe less that five degrees outside, and the car was just a couple of miles from our house, and less than ten minutes into the drive.

OK, so we're coming to a stop. The care is going about 1 mile per hour at this point (foot easing on the brake), and all of a sudden the car goes into full acceleration. We travel about six or eight feet before we slam into the car in front of us, which was already at a complete stop.
The Kona is destroyed. Air bags deploy. The car in front of us has some damage, but not that bad.

I searched online, and I did see a few similar stories. People slowing down to pull into their garages, and then crashing into the back of the garage at high speeds.
I also saw something about a recall related to this, but I can't find anything specific.
Our car went through all recalls, but never one related to this (I don't think).

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jed K

One thread related on this forum.

Thanks for that link.

I read what the poster wrote. Similar type of thing.
I'm glad there's only one person and there were no real consequences but at the same time, I wish there were a few more to make my case with Hyundai. I feel this will fall into a black hole with Hyundai.
The car is already at a salvage lot, and Hyundai hasn't even examined the it yet.

That's very scary. Glad everyone is ok.
Thanks,
So I was in the passenger seat and I put my hands out in front of me to brace for impact.
Jammed a couple of fingers when the air bags deployed into my hand.
Other than that, we're all fine.
Could have been much worse if there wasn't a car in front of us to crash into.
We could have killed someone crossing the street, or killed ourselves.

"I put my hands out in front of me to brace for impact."

Natural instinct, but race drivers learn to take their hands off the steering wheel at the moment of impacting the wall, to avoid hand injury.
