Cooper SE "mini" mud flaps

My 2022 cooper SE Ionic was supplied with small mudflaps on the rear wheels. Do they have a secondary purpose to deflecting road dirt. They seem too small for that purpose?

yes you are right. my mini SE has vents in the front bumper to assist the aerodynamics as well

OP, I have these as well in both front and rear. My SE is ‘22 Sig (level 1).

Ditto on my '22 S. They're in front of the wheels. Mud flaps are usually behind the wheels.

I was going to say they keep the mud off the tires in the first place, making mud flaps behind the wheels unnecessary. I'm sure these flaps are there to improve aerodynamic efficiency.
