Confirmed the next electric Mini is to be made in China

Well, this confirms the likelihood (for me, at least) that my 2022 MINI SE may well be my last electric MINI, as I will not purchase a car made in China until the CCP is in the rearview mirror. Add to this the recent changes made to the EV tax credit regime in the US + the tariffs on Chinese-made autos + likely state rebate changes to its programs to favor US-made EVs + my advanced age anyway, and I am a happy camper with my SE-Oxford purchase last year.

Has anybody actually read this new article making the rounds? It has a very sensationalist opening, but you must be a subscriber to read beyond that. I think the Autocar article is much more level-headed...

If it's a great product I don't really care where it's made. Sure, there is something romantic about being assembled in Oxford as they always have been, but that is a feel good anecdote not a selling point for me. More range and same build quality at a minimum, hopefully some cost savings to counteract US import tariffs. A generational upgrade in tech or power (dual motor, not more FWD) would seal the deal. Then again, this starts to sound like an EV Countryman for me as long as it doesn't get any bigger.

Provided that everyone shares their opinion in a constructive manner, the First Amendment should be respected. I don't particularly think the Oxford plant is as important as the "Foreign Entities of Concern" to some and whether or not you choose to drive a particular brand/vehicle under personal moral reasons is fair game.

Here's to hoping that my Mini, slated to arrive in March, doesn't slip into a Mini produced in China.

It'll be interesting to see if MINI actually survives the Chinese market.

Unlikely for 23 MY. 24 MY for late 2023 I’d guess for Chinese built cars which will be almost entirely new. Based on owning other BMWs they will run production until 05 or 06/23 for SE in Oxford. With Chinese units arriving in fall

I like to point out iPhones are (currently) made in China. There's nothing wrong with the manufacturing capabilities, it's all about the standards of the company. But there are certainly non-technical issues with buying Chinese goods.

The issue seems to be the massive import tariffs for the US market. Not sure I’d pay more for a Chinese mini. I would pay for an MG though as it would be cheaper and a better package

I’d like this to be expanded upon, perhaps in an OT area of the forum. How is the government abridging the speech of any (American) members here?
I have no idea, but for the OT area things got dicey with the bible quoting. I also contemplated posting the Old Greek and Hebrew versions and maybe the Quran for extra fun.

Although the iPhone 14 is transitioning to the India factory, Foxconn is Taiwanese and I am sure we are all excited about their upcoming "made in America" electric vehicles!

china **** “covid zero” policy combined with Trump speeding up their real estate crash has companies such as Apple looking elsewhere for manufacturing. China is no longer “stable”
With EVs about to explode in the USA you will see more manufactures looking to build there or NA in general

Don't forget that Foxconn was supposed to build a factory in Wisconsin, and all they did was drive out property owners. They "conned" Wisconsin big time.
The new brand is Foxtron, but the vehicles look more Robocop than Tron (Legacy). Such a disappointment!
