Comma 3 Fork

If you are interested in comma AI there is a new fork for the comma 3 and it is fantastic. I've tested it and have found it does things that the standard set up does not. Things I've been wanting ever since I got a 3.

The most important for me: LKAS can be always on. Even when you brake, and LKAS can be used without ACC active (Yes!).

I'm going to install the new one. To do so I connect my comma 3 to my laptop and type in the url when it asks for it.

Update: The features added to the gac fork have been incorporated into minaj and it looks like minaj is the one to get future changes.

Please refer to Recommended Branches to find your preferred/supported branch. This guide will assume you want to install the latest release-c3 branch.

• sunnypilot not installed or you installed a version before 0.8.17?
  1. Factory reset/uninstall the previous software if you have another software/fork installed.
  2. After factory reset/uninstall and upon reboot, select Custom Software when given the option.
  3. Input the installation URL per Recommended Branches. Example: bit.ly/sp-release-c3 1 (note: https:// is not requirement on the comma three)
  4. Complete the rest of the installation following the onscreen instructions.

  1. On the comma three, go to Settings/Software.
  2. At the Download option, press CHECK. This will fetch the list of latest branches from sunnypilot.
  3. At the Target Branch option, press SELECT to open the Target Branch selector.
  4. Scroll to select the desired branch per Recommended Branches. Example: release-c3

I've been interested in Comma since they first came on the scene. What has your experience been like?

At first, confusing. There is a learning curve still, but it is so much easier to install the software than it used to be. And the features are more plentiful.

The physical installation can be off-putting, but once started it's straightforward. There is a video that walks you through it. Be prepared to do some dismantling of the dash, but it's rather simple to do.

Driving is a better experience. When I had a comma2 I drove from Las Vegas, NV to Williamsburg, VA for a move. The lack of stress compared to driving without the comma was incredible. With it keeping in the lane, changing lanes (strange at first), and the improved ACC (always use Sport mode) you get to concentrate more on traffic and less on staying in the lane, etc. I drove a nine hour day and was not exhausted at the end. I was 74 at the time.

I highly recommend joining comma/Clarity Discord. It's not like all the rumors about Discord. There are a lot of friendly and very helpful people there.

Sunnypilot user here, 5k miles in. Everything works fine. The proxy box installed in the dashboard has no side-effects and is invisible to i-HDS. I reverse-engineered the EPS steering torque mod to verify safety byte-by-byte, and after I had confidence, I went for the 3x version. (The Clarity has a very low 0.5 Nm EPS torque limit from factory, so the 3x mod is quite reasonable and not unsafe like some 3x mods for cars with 1.0 Nm factory limits.)

The EPS firmware mod is also invisible to i-HDS; you have to use a specific J2534 rewrite app (not the usual Honda one, a specific one for the EPS) to even read out the current firmware version.
