Understood, and if this were a new standard for every manufacturer I would be fine with it. Instead, each of them is "innovating" according to their own whim. This happened 40 years ago with water faucets. We went from a universal design to an endless variety of single lever concepts, so now when you check into a new hotel you get to stand naked and shivering in the shower stall while you try to figure out how to turn the cursed thing on.

This rant is admittedly way OT from coin holders. I don't think I started it, but I will stop now.
 
Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but just got the car, and my #1 usability complaint is.....

Has anyone figured out a better trash bin than those that hang on the back of the seats? I really liked having the trash "at hand" next to the gearshift...

I too miss having a trash receptacle. I tend to use an empty cup holder for small items and the passenger floor for larger. The one that appeals most to me fits over the rear seat center floor hump. It has weights on flaps that extend out the sides to help it stay in place.

Another option, for us, would hang on the posts of the front passenger head rest. Our usual passenger list only has one person in the back seat and he sits behind the driver so the trash container wouldn't be in anyone's way.

I wish Honda would have designed some coin space in the wings of the shift panel. At least then those bothersome wings would have had a purpose. More than that I'd prefer a shift lever over buttons.
 
I found this trash receptacle with a spring loaded lid (the white part). It works very well but takes up one of the cup holders. The whole top comes off to empty

I have a pump dispenser of Purel in the driver's door (I do in-home care) and to keep it from sliding back and forth, I folded up a re-useable grocery bag to take up the rest of the space in that pocket. Dual-purpose because I always have a bag in the car in case I forget to bring one. :)
 
Apple Store bags used to be plastic with a close cord and very resilient. They were my go-to for the in-car garbage bags. Thanks for a tip from another user, I untied the bag and tie it around the base of the shifter panel. Unfortunately Apple has moved away from this style of bag, so rushing to buy an iPad will not help you.

Me too. That shift panel is just wasted space. A trash tray and coin holder in there would be perfect.
