Clarity oddities and quirks

If you have the brake hold on already and unbuckle, it will switch it to the emergency brake

Brake hold is a convenience, driving the car is not. If there was an emergency and the car wouldn’t let you drive due to a bad seat belt sensor and someone died Honda would be asking to get sued big time.

Brake hold discussion is off the rails. You can drive without a seatbelt and brake hold.
But you can’t use brake hold without your seatbelt. Makes perfect sense.
 
I never had a car that attracts so many bugs. They are tiny little flying ones, mostly over the roof. Believe is the white paint.

They are limiting your feature use of the car to encourage seatbelt use. It may also be so they can use it as a trigger so you don’t get out of the car with it in gear and brake hold.

One famous saying is "Follow the money." In this case a corollary is "Follow the lawyers (to the money). If you have to jump into your car, start it and quickly move off the railroad tracks, you'd be happy it doesn't require you to fasten your seat belt to select Drive.

There's no jeopardy associated with not being able to use Brake Hold, so the greater jeopardy (hence greater chance of a lawsuit) is allowing you to perform some non-essential action without fastening your seat belt. "Your Honor, if this newfangled Clarity had required my client to fasten his seat belt before selecting Brake Hold, he would not have broken the expensive acoustic windshield with his noggin when that tree jumped in front of his car. And why didn't the Brake Hold stop the car when the tree made its jump?"

Hi all!
I know this has been mentioned in another thread, but I could not find it, so I thought this might be a good place to start again. I have a short garage parking space and the Clarity is a long car (part of why I like it so much!!). Anyway, I have a very small parking window, and I frequently have to adjust the car after parking it (I saw the other threads on parking aids, and I’m getting one…but in the meanwhile, humor me!). I find it frustrating that I cant move the car without the seatbelt on (or maybe Im not getting it), and I cant move the car while the charge lid is open. Am I missing something? Is there a workaround?

A more troubling thing happened to me yesterday, after I closed the garage door, I realized I could not open the trunk (it was too close to the door). So, I tried to "drive" the car forward a few inches. When I pushed drive (with no seatbelt on, and with the charge lid open), the car switched to drive, made a small jerk backward about 4 inches, and automatically went into park. While it was frustrating that I could not move the car – it was quite dangerous that it “jerked” backward – as it almost damaged my garage door. Anyone else with the same experience? Any way to fix it? Any way to “adjust” the car position? Why would the car move at all? Thanks all!
 
For many years we've used a tennis ball on a string to position our cars in the garage. It's simple, cheap, and works well. Just park the car where you always want it, have the tennis ball hang so it touches the windshield right where the rear view mirror mount is. From then on drive until the car just touches the ball.

When I first got the car I did this all the time and with large parts of the DII obscured because of my short person status I often did nor see the warning til I was well down the road. I finally cured this problem by saying a "1,2,3" mantra every time i un plug the charger.

"1", pull the charger.
"2" shut the hatch.
"3" put the lid on the charger.

That seems to work really well unless I get severely distracted--now quite rarely because of ingrained mantra habit.

Onto other gripes...
Coming from a Golf Sportwagen, I find the rear blind spots to be a real problem. Parallel parking is by gosh and by golly, although I am learning how to use the backup camera.
