Clarity oddities and quirks

While working on a few recent mods ive noticed a few quirks on this car.

The door design at the bottom has this pretty sharp edge that will dent or chip if it hits anything. Luckily the door skin is aluminum.

Also, what is this weird black triangular metal skid plate / cage at the end of the control arm?

Check this Tesla Model 3 level panel fit between the upper front and rear door.

Lastly, after installing two trunk cargo hooks, they now protrude into view through the small trunk window. Kind of annoying.

Thanks for the cargo-hook photo. I've now decided not to get them.

I've been wondering about those black triangular metal pieces attached to the back of the rear suspension since the first time I looked under the car on December 2nd.
 
Those black brackets don't look substantial enough for any structural purpose, but my first thought was it is a positive stop if the wheel travel is at its minimum when the car is overloaded. As the wheel moves up into the wheel well, the bracket would contact the frame above. I'm sure if Honda doesn't provide a valid explanation, the hyper-milers will take them off.

I saw them when I was looking for where a hitch could mount. I don't remember how close they are to the tires. Could they be some kind of means to disrupt airflow coming off the tires to improve aerodynamics?

The tiny exhaust pipe snakes along the passenger side and exits on the drivers side. Here’s some pics of it.

This is from the passenger rear side and you can see it running along the passenger side which makes sense since the ICE is on same side.

This is the drivers side rear of the car. You can see the exhaust pipe on the bottom right where it will angle down and have an angle cut so it can be seen from the back of the car.

The more I look at them and where they are installed, the more I believe they protect those aluminum suspension components when the car is backing up. They are thick enough gauge steel and have a kick up at the bottom like skis to protect these awkwardly jutting arms.

Here’s a few.
I ordered them from my dealer with unmounted winter tires (Michelin X-ice xi3) when I bought the car and had them swap the stock tires on and mount those new winter tires on the stock wheels.
I think they look like HRE P101s.

Here’s a pic of the exhaust from cat and where it exits.

Notice the metal cover for the oil pan (with 8 removable screws you must turn 90 degrees). Someone also mentioned there a lot of felt used in the fender liner and undercarriage.

A gripe I have (quirk?) is that there is nothing to prevent you from driving down the road with the charge door open. On the Volt, it will give three beeps, a message on the display, and refuses to start with the door open. The Clarity does nothing. It should at least give a warning IMO.

I have left mine open after charging several times and I always get a warning when I start the car.
 
I stand corrected - after paying closer attention - it says charge lid open for a second or two, displays a couple of other messages, then comes back to charge lid open. I guess I missed that before, just saw the other messages and did not wait and look again.

I left the house with it open once, and the warning didn't come on until I was about 8 miles up the freeway. I figured maybe it was mostly closed and then a bump in the road jostled it open enough to trip the warning. It reverted the warning screen pretty consistently, despite my efforts to keep the range screen visible.

I think he was making a dig at Tesla since the first bunch of Tesla 3's off the line had bad panel gaps. That was a photo of his Clarity, I believe.
