The dealer quoted me 2500 and I gave him a look that meant “**** off”. He dropped the price for 10yrs 100k to 1300. I took it
Not if you owned a couple of Suburban's with blown transmissions and a Toyota with motor mount issues. YMMV.OTOH if in 30 months or 26k miles everything is running like clockwork, Honda has had firmware releases to fix issues and life is swell I would probably just bag the whole idea of a warranty and continue to self-insure as it is sometimes called. Insurance policies and extended warranties are just lottery tickets with different payouts.

Sean, the internet manager at Hyannis is pretty good. We live just a few miles away and the whole dealership seems first rate. Here's some more information I received from Hyannis today:
1. The mileage cutoff to get the C & D series (new car) warranties is 6,000 - so if considering those do it before you hit that.
2. The main difference I see in the F and G warranties are that they max out at 6 years.
3. Since I'm over the 6,000 miles they say I would get the "most bang for my buck" by waiting until I'm closer to 3 years or 36,000 miles.
Yes, let that sink in. He told me to not send them money yet but wait until I was closer to the cut off. That's the kind of treatment that will make sure I contact them in the future!

If you really intend to keep it for a long time, or pass along the inheritance early, then the tech alone is a big considerationAgreed.
That's the problem I have in spending the money. I've never bought an extension and our 1984 Accord, 1998 Dakota, 2002 CRV, 2005 Accord and 2005 Highlander have not had a problem that a 10yr 100k service contract would have fixed.
The only reason I've considered it is that the Clarity is very different technologically from those other vehicles.

Wouldn't that mean "Honda Care is "Honda Care except in CA?" Hard to believe Honda has different warranties for different states.Bought my Clarity yesterday in Northern California. Thanks to all the knowledge I gained from this forum, I went prepared to reject any Honda Care and go with the plan from Saccucci Honda ($1475) unless dealer's quote was close enough.
Dealer initially quoted $2500 but brought it down to $2000 after long persuasion. Per the dealer, CA vehicles are manufactured differently from other states due to the stringent emission standards. Therefore, Honda Care bought from another state does not cover any claims related to exhaustion systems made for CA. They have had several claims rejected in the past due to this.
Does anyone know if this is correct? Is this why Hyannis does not cover Honda Care for CA?

If you’re not in California, Hyannis Honda has rhe lowest prices and will give you a written quote with a confirmation number on line. Take to dealer to match or buy it on line. It’s the same Honda Care and the D80 (100,000 miles/8 yr) was $1,304. My dealer tried to sell me a third party warranty and didn’t mention Honda Care until I said that’s what I want. And his quote was $2,550. I made them match the Hyannis price. They don’t care about you, only about making the most profit. Was just quoted $2,700 for 6 years/120k miles with no deductible. Seems completely out of whack based on what I've seen here.
I was thinking. If I had purchased a $1,500 maintenance contract for each of those cars it would have totaled $9,000 including the Clarity. Quite a sizable sum that could pay for repairs beyond what insurance would cover. I guess I'm self insured.I'm completely spoiled by our previous cars. I had a 1997 Civic that had exactly one problem over 20 years. Maintenance costs were no more than oil changes and the prescribed maintenance. The 2003 Honda CR-V was perfect until my wife totaled it in 2008. Our 2005 4Runner we bought used in 2009 has also had exactly one problem (aside from needing the fuel cap replaced twice). The two Prius had zero problems from 2008 to 2017; I mean not even a loose screw.
Our annual budget for car repairs far exceeded our actual cost for these many years.
I'm hoping the Clarity follows that pattern. No maintenance contract for us.
