I have heard it mentioned on this forum that some Honda dealers are Clarity certified and some are not. How do I check a dealer's "Clarity Certification Status"? Is this information publicly available, or am I at the mercy of asking specific dealers one by one (and hoping they are honest/knowledgeable in their answer)?

Also, I am curious to know if people have had specific experiences with both certified and not certified and have an opinion either way.

Thank you!

You could ask if the dealership ever sold any new Clarities. Dealers have to have taken the Clarity training and purchased some special gear (including a very expensive battery lift) to sell the car. Back when there were new Clarity cars for sale, you could check online to see which dealers had them, but those days are gone. There's a list of CPO Clarity cars now in dealer inventories, but there are certainly many dealers who are Clarity-certified that don't have any CPO Clarity cars in their inventory.

Here in Las Vegas there seems to be no certified Clarity dealers. I know one of them (Findlay Honda) was offering a couple of Clarity for sale a few months ago but not anyut not anymore. I haven't seen a Clarity in this town yet after 10 months. In July I took the car for maintenance to my closest dealer (Autonation) and it was a nightmare. They literally threw away my key and left me 6 hours waiting before having my wife coming to pick me with the spare so they could finish and let my car go. They eventually found the key in another car a few days later. Next time I went to the other (Findlay) dealer and it was OK, they only took 3.5 hours to get the maintenance done (it was usually less than 2 back in CA certified dealer, guess these new guys had to spend some time getting acquainted with the car). It's scary, but since I have no choice other than driving back to LA...

This is why I always take it to the dealer, but even there, it’s an exotic car for them. Service people comment every time.

Just so long as the battery doesn’t go crazy…
