Chevy Bolt to start getting Over-The-Air

According to Transport Evolved, the Chevy Bolt is going to start receiving an OTA update starting April 18, and rolling out until it's done. It works through the OnStar system.

For some reason, an OTA update isn't being done for the battery issue (in some 2017 Bolts), and so owners will still have to go to the dealership once they are contacted by GM.

It's nice and slow... even my mother could probably follow the instructions. It seems like you don't even need a paid Onstar subscription from what I have read. That's good! But a connection to your home wi fi network would probably be faster.

Another quick note.

The link with GM instruction to get the software update indicates that conectivity feature to download the software is free, but , as you read into the document it indicates that you must be connected to your own Wi-Fi to download. There are some issues with Clarity in terms of whether or not the download will happen automatically if you are not connected to Wi-Fi and not connected to an OnStar paid subscription.

I got up at 6 AM today to take our Bolt in for the two updates, only to arrive bleary-eyed back home and read on insideevs that Chevy had just opened things up to OTAs! At least it's looking like my short trip and two hour wait (I brought my folding bike with me so could go grab breakfast while waiting) was not in vain since the high voltage update apparently can't be done OTA. Looking forward to the day when I can do all car repairs sitting in my driveway.
