I saw this on driveelectriccolorado.org:

So, the decal, which is designed to inform law enforcement, allows me to plug into state-funded public chargers, such as those in the new DCFC corridor being built out by the Colorado Energy Office.

Does that mean EV drivers from other states cannot use those EVSEs?

I know that the Taxman will get theirs wherever they can, but the whole idea of an extra levy on EV drivers to recoup lost fuel taxes is problematic to me. Firstly, we all know that most fuel taxes go into the general coffers, and not to road maintenance. Secondly (that’s a word?), petrol vehicles intrinsically cost the government and society more (pollution, climate change, healthcare, infrastructure, etc) than EVs do. Thirdly, it’s an unfair allocation of burden: eg. a Prius owner travels the same distance in a year as a dude in a Mustang GT, but pays a quarter of the fuel taxes (and in some places, the Mustang buyer will have to pay gas-guzzler tax). Why? Shouldn’t we then just eliminate fuel taxes and charge a flat fee across the board?

What we should do is charge fees based on the number of miles driven.

During the last legislative session in Texas (they occur every two years), the Republicans tried to stick it to the woke elitist left wingers who purchased EVs, but the increased fees legislation failed. I predict that they'll succeed in the next session.

I may be wrong but, from reading that, sounds like it's how Colorado handles the "EV road tax" as opposed to having a higher registration tab fee. My state (Minnesota) charges an extra $75 per year for an EV when renewing tabs, no need for any special stickers.
I think the decal is supposed to do both of those things, but how it is enforced, and I don't think anyone with an EV got a ticket for not having the sticker in the window. The ironic part is that in order to register the car and get the little sticker for the corner of the plate, you have to pay the EV road tax.

That's kind of my point, why the sticker? I pay the annual fee when I renew my registration in my state, but I don't have a special plate or get a special sticker.

Are there any benefits to having the plate? I hear of EV hate, esp in CO where so many ***es drive big people trucks, that I don't want to stick out unless there are benefits to it.

I just don't understand that mentality. People being dicks just to be dicks.

When I got my regular green plate, their computer knew it was an EV and I was charged the correct amount. I was not given a sticker. I have also charged at the state chargers in both Estes and Georgetown. It’s not like they are free, you still have to pay with ChargePoint. I see dozens of EVs daily and never once have I seen this silly sticker. If they really want people to have a sticker, they should sell it at the checkout line at REI where everyone else gets their car stickers. :D

I guess I don’t mind paying a little for the road tax. It only seems fair. My only problem with the state vehicle registration system is how diesel pickup truck drivers get a complete pass on emissions requirements.

My problem with the registration system is they only do the tailpipe enema test. I can roll in there with a car that has baloney skin tires, burnt headlight bulbs, no reverse or brake lights, a cracked windshield, and now wipers etc. but as long as it has clean exhaust I can register it, and drive it on the public roads.

I believe they see the handwriting on the wall and are upset that their life choices are soon to end. And they can't cope with that. (Am I being too generous?)

I’ve even seen a coal rolling school bus a couple of times!

Back on topic, I may see if I can get one of the new plates when it’s time to renew. More EV awareness can’t be bad.
